Has anyone replaced the bright trim around the windshield of one of these cars. Do you necessarily have to use stainless trim or would a plastic chrome product be suitable. Where could something like this be purchased....Thanks...C.J.

If your looking for original, I have the OEM chrome, still on the car and that old rubber is hard. I Don't know how well it will come out, it is in a sedan I bought for parts. I am not using it on my coupe.

  7. The bright trim is a "U" shape and slides over the pinch weld. The rubber goes around the gl***. The factory installed with a light adhesive of some sort against the trimmed pinch weld....from the inside. Then the garnish molding was installed to hold it all together.

The cheaper trim cars that did not have the stainless trim had a rubber gasket that held the gl*** and went over the pinch weld from the inside and didn't necessarily require the garnish molding to hold it all together.

One method for Deluxe trim level and one for standard. The tough part of the Deluxe is holding the first piece of gl*** in while installing the second piece, holding it in and then installing the garnish molding/ Imagineer some props and have at it.

The trim I have, (no picture today) is the one that goes into the seal from the outside of the car. I had to cut out the windshield so i could remove the dash, that old rubber is pretty hard and brittle, ended up using a hammer. The hood says deluxe, but I don't know if it is the right hood. The body has the stainless trim down the side. My coupe does not have the trim, nor gl*** when i got it, pretty much gutted. I was very surprised to see the deluxe (per hood) has holes to mount the trim, where the coupe has the trim stamped in the doors / body. I know I didn't describe it too well, I expected the trim went over the stamped molding, however the car with the trim does not have the embossed/ stamped molding.
I know my coupe was the cheap model, it does have the fuel tank under the trunk floor, fuel inlet in the fender. It also was painted black and white and had a cherry on top, all that was gone when I found it. It was someones attempt at some kind of scary *** drag car. It had the big olds rear end, no front brakes, and the worst frame work (for motor mounts) i have ever seen. That I do have pictures of. The picture of the old decal is on the parts car, it seems it may have had some interesting history as well (ash tray had some remains, see picture). I will get pictures of the trim, but it will be over the weekend, it's dark when i get home. sad 40.jpg 40 decal.jpg

I got a look at it last night, it does seem to be the same as yours. The trim wraps around the pinch weld as you stated. Didn't attempt removal, it was dark, windy and cold. Not going to use it on my coupe, although it might look real good, I kinda like the plain black rubber on this one.
