I searched on here but couldn't find one, if there is already i apologise.

I'm building a 1940 Business coupe and mostly out of interest and partly for inspiration i'm trying to collect as many photos of 1940 Chevy cars as possible. It seems every time i google it all i come up with is a load of over the top, billet clad street rods but surely there must be loads of others out there... i've only seen a handful of tastefully modified sedans and coupes, a couple of bombs and obviously the orange one done by Gambino's. so if you have one built or being built or know anyone with one please post it here...

    Thanks!

Here's mine before any serious work started on it...

Go to www.carnut.com and click on the picture index. Select year and make and spend a day looking at pictures. It is a great data base.

I've seen yours before Cleatus, what an amazing piece of work!

Yours is a refreshing change too Tom, are you leaving the black parts black?

Mine looks like a POS but is actually very solid with through rust only in the lower rear valance and a couple of other places. Pretty lucky as i bought it from just a few photos and very little details... a gamble that paid off.

Yeah, your's looks mint compared to the pile I drug home. Starting with something more like that would have saved a bunch of work, but oh well...I learned a lot fixing it.
What are your plans - is the avatar of the salt flat car the direction you're thinking?

Tim I'm sure you've seen this picture before. It has original paint and interior, sort of. I had to put new headliner and carpet in it. 350-350 engine trans with a camaro front nova rear. It's a criuser!!

I don't have a pic, but the best 40 ever is the one built by Sam Gregory. Surely somebody must have a pic.

It's going to be pretty low but not on bags, i have a 270ci GMC straight six, 3 speed manual with Hurst floor shift and a 87 Firebird rear axle which will probably be on 4 link, notched chassis at the rear. front has a 54 Chevy front clip with drop spindles which i channeled up 2 inches around the chassis legs so it sits lower. just because that's what i had kicking about and don't have the cash to buy and ship a MII set up right now. Yeah thinking about a kinda salt flat look but hey things could all change once i see it mocked up back on it's wheels...

Nice Bob, did you rebuild them both?

Cool, love the way you grafted it onto the back of the truck, seemless! :D

Of Course Dyce, love your car man!! I hope things are good with you? long time no speak! Oh by the way i picked up a lovely old FJ Edwards English wheel a couple of months ago, love it!

No, that's why I said it's going through a change. When I first built it I called it a custom rod, chopped top, nosed and decked, no door handles with a rake ( see pic ) . Now I'm going for a tail dragger look, what I would call a full custom. Cleatus had some influence on that decision.

Awesome thread! My dad and my grandfather both had several 40' Chevies in the late 90's early 2000's . Would love to see were those cars ended up .

Anybody seen our have pics of a ...

Wintermint green 40 coupe with a LT-1 and chrome Torq Thrusts?
    Bright Red 40' coupe with a LT-1 and 15" boyd wheels ?
Orange 40' 2 door sedan with a carb sbc and a wild chop top ?
Porsche rasberrry (fucshia color) 40' two door sedan ?

Im gonna look for some pics of these 40's to share. These were the cars that got my family in the old car hobby.

Mine was Kingston grey with Biarritz red wheels and pinstripe from the factory. I will probably go back to the Kingston grey for the main body colour, i was thinking about using the red for the lower nose if i go the salt flat route like my avatar but can't find an image of Biarritz red anywhere on the internet. if anyone see's it on a colour swatch or a photo with it on a car please share it with me...

Really in nice shape. Does your's have the stainless trim around the backglass?
I've been looking for that trim for years and can never find it.

    Thanks

That would have to be from a special deluxe body, but I can't recall every seeing one. Dose it slip over the pinch weld like the windshield or clip on like the side trim??

Coupe only or would a sedan fit too?
