1940 Chevy coupe help again

Discussion in 'Off Topic Hot Rods & Customs' started by johnrfray, Feb 27, 2026 at 4:30 AM.

  1. I am just starting to sort of upgrade this car, I am retired so you know what that is all about not lots of money LOL Just need some input from people who have done this.

I want to add A/C but my fear is over heating now with a condenser added . I have a 35o for a motor with a clutch fan at this time . Also 3 row aluminum rad,

    (1) Do I dump the clutch fan and put in electric fan
    (2) Install condenser in front of rad with its own fan
oh and im also looking for the original rods that held the trunk up one on each side

How about just installing a condenser and not worrying about it? Then if you have a problem worry. Fan and clutch is the best setup there is and will pull more air than an electric.

  3. Can I have both clutch fan and a pusher electric ?

Why? So the pusher can be a restriction in airflow.

Try it without the pusher. You may get lucky. Don't overthink it.

Agree. Millions of cars were built with A/C and a mechanical fan. I'd add a shroud if it doesn't have one
