Run a cool 327 tried power setup or something old school, having built 1000's of 350's I can't get excited either. Plus the LS is so much cheaper and builds more HP for less money. That being said I have a soft spot for baby v8's. Baby hemi? 215 Buick v8? 303 olds?

I'm building a 40 Chevy sedan too. Going small block in mine. It fit right in the stock frame like it belongs there. I was thinking of doing dual fours or 3 deuces or something like that for shits and giggles.....single four barrels are boring. lol

[IMG][IMG] a couple pictures of the progress. I know it looks like a disaster. Rednecking it in a tiny garage. Lots of comealongs and angle grinding.

[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG] made some more progress. Got the body perched on the frame with tire mounted so it rolls. You can see that it’s not a perfect fit but it’s close enough to make a good fit with some work. Saw a 38 coupe with stock fenders running 215 /85 -16s. That’s about 30” so I’m shooting for a tire of that outer diameter. Once I get them mounted I can get my wheels centered and figure out what needs to be cut up.

Got all mounts that stuck up above the frame cut off. The s10 frame fits pretty well. The axle hump is a few inches higher than the original. So either I will have to channel the trunk and rear floor or the front section will sit just above the frame. I’m thinking channeling as the frame is not worth showing off.

Well it happened. I decided on a motor and bought one. Went to Lebanon yesterday with my buddy, his three year old and I took his truck out there to grab some inner rockers from The filling station and check out a straight six I found on Craigslist. The owner seemed like a nice guy, he’d pulled it for a 350 swap. It was pretty clean and he claimed ran well. Think it’s a 72. Anyway He had a hoist so we loaded it up and brought it home. However I don’t have a hoist and my neighbor who does was in the middle of an engine swap so my amazing wife and friend and I concocted a cunning plan to get the motor out. It involved 4x6s old tires and two comeallongs. It was sketchy but it worked. Now to figure out how to go from 4.3 mounts to 250

    Casting numbers say it’s a 73-79 250.

Heyyyyyy, I just found this post. I'm the guy who bought this rig and though I'd come on to update the progress.

I cut the IFS that belonged to the 89 s10 and put in a dana 44 front axle and 14 bolt rear axle out of a 85 chevy 3/4 ton. I bolted on a high steer kit along with a 1993 Astro Van steering box (bolted right up no modification) because the pitman arm faces forward and works better with the high steer I put in. I'm going to have to cut the inner Cs from the dana 44 and rotate them about 8 degrees then shim the axle so the front diff meets with the t-case at am agreeable angle. Not conventional but will work....

I had to lengthen the front of the frame to welded on a cross member to have a place to weld on leaf spring hangers. Then used some Jeep CJ5 springs because they are pretty short and work well in centering the wheel in the well.

I bolted on a th350 transmission behind the straight 6 (I plan on keeping the 6 by the way) and an NP205 t-case behind the transmission. Then I put a jack under the engine/trans/t-case and jacked it up until the engine had a 4.5 degree slant and I welded brackets on frame to support t-case and transmission cross member.

In hind sight it would have been easier if this was on a full size truck frame to begin with but I'm glad having this forced me to learn so much so far.

Welcome to the HAMB. I realize you're new to the site and in your excitement for your build you probably did not notice that this site is dedicated to more "traditional" hot rodding. You might ask a mod to move the thread to the OT (off topic) forum as some of us have more than one passion when it comes to cars and trucks. Your build looks both interesting and promising so hopefully we can see more of it. But it is very doubtful it will stay in the current forum. They will be along shortly to point you to the site rules about what works to post where.

    Thanks for the heads up!

I realize this might be a more traditional group. I was just amazed that I found the previous owner's posts and the exact moment when he went from the "traditional" to the "rally" look. The only reason I bought this car was because it was cheap and too far gone to be turned back. It was already on the s10 frame and rusted out in many spots. If it was near to original I couldn't have started to work on it because the pressure would have been too great not to mess it up. Being what it was I felt no pressure.

I look forward to the mod guiding me to the OT forum.

May your bolts not seize and your knuckles remain pristine!

    Cheers!
