I am obviously open to opinions but before posting useless replies, I know this question is so relative based on basically every detail of the situation. Next. Found these in a local yard and wondering what one is worth ***uming it is mostly complete (all major components in place) and not a Flintstone car (rust is not an issue). I found these while looking for parts intended for another build so I have not looked at these in detail and there are more than a few in this yard so I should be good on spare parts. It will be a week or so until I can make it back out there for another look and more pictures.
I had a '40 Royal, they're really neat cars but not terribly valuable. One like that, ***uming you got all of the sheetmetal with it, but with gl*** busted out and all the paint baked off, having sat outside for a long time? $1500-$2500 probably. If it was out of the weeds, on wheels and rolling/steering, had a ***le, I'd say higher, but they're not. I'm sure the "Living in the Past Lowballer's Club" will pipe up to tell you they're worth $200 max and that they once bought one running and driving for a case of beer only a few years ago (1973), any minute now.
Yes I'm sure "we all had one" but like you said, this is 2023 no matter how hard we fight it. This would be a years long project but I'm ok with that. I am at a decade with my '55 truck so that is pretty normal in my life. I just always wanted a tail dragger and the lines on these are mostly there already. Thanks for the response.
Coming from a life-long Mopar Family, I'll tell you honestly they're worth $800-1500 and the only buyers are dreamers who don't realize how much of a nightmare the build would be. With all the old timers dying, I bet I could find an older-restored 1940 Chrysler at a liquidation auction for like $8k in the next year or so.
I do think one would make a cool taildragger. If you couldn't buy a whole car or if the price was too high, I'd still probably try to get the front bumper off of that one. That's a really good looking bumper with the peak in the middle, would look good on a lot of different early 40's cars if you're planning to build a taildragger at some point.
