I was thinking the same thing...Headlights and tail lights are two things I would never change on a 40. The bumper looks good though......

Congrats on the "first drive"! That's ALWAYS cool!

I was very concerned over the tail light choices, and always would choose stock '40 tail lights, however, I will admit that you choice looks pretty cool.

Thanks guys! The maiden voyage will be to the drag strip this weekend for the big show going on.

Yours is actually one of the ones that gave me the inspiration for the gold color. And i'm actually going to be upholstering my running boards with white marine vinyl this friday. my question for you is how did you attach it? I'm mainly concerned with how to fold the outside edge over and have it not come loose. the other 3 edges are connected to the body and fenders, so those should hold tight from the pressure, but what about that outside edge?!

Re: securing the out linear edge of the white running board. Back in 1965, way before Drake made his covers, I used a piece of thin aluminum angle to hold the rubber in place. The angle was held in place with stainless screws - evenly spaced. You would have to paint or powder coat the aluminum white.

The outside edge is held with 9 white snaps with a small bit of Velcro between them. It fits flush with the edge. There are also 3 snaps by the front fender and 2 by the rear. The body edge is just a pressure fit. There is no glue or anything else holding them and they have never moved. But, they can come off to clean if you want. The marine vinyl is holding up just fine and is very easy to maintain. Hope that's what you needed to know. I'm diggin' your car man. Mike (I just added a pic that may help)

Looks good Jake. I'm glad you got it on the road. I like the color too. Maybe you can talk the owner of that old school white sedan to go for a cruise.

Figured I'd post up some pictures I've been taking of the car at shows and such. Its a blast to drive. The question I hear the most is "wheres the hood?". It doesn't need one!:D

And I used some of your suggestions on how to attach the vinyl. I put headliner foam on the boards first and then covered that with the vinyl. It's secured with aluminum strip on the inside of the running board. I hope to get them covered with tuck and roll white vinyl soon.

Far from finished, but I'm happy to be driving it.

I can't wait until I get the tripower on it.
