1940 Ford bumper question......

It is well known that I am a 32 Ford fellow at heart.

BUT I have this old 40 Ford coupe I mess with ..time to time and I need to know about bumpers. When the coupe got rear ended in Georgia last year, I bought ( EBAY ) two 40 Ford bumpers (original but rechromed) for the coupe. I put the best one on the rear. I am a procastinator.........today I went to put on the other one and the holes are way off. Like 3 inches per side. This is on the front of a 40 standard coupe. I know that the bumper braces are different than a DeLuxe..... ..... but what's the deal with the bumper ?

i got a friend who owns 2 stock 40's will ck out the hole measurements for you if you can give me a little time...

Randy, if you dont get much feed back I will call my dad and have him measure his 40's I know one is a standard but not sure about the other..

 

You know I have had a few 40 fords over the years and I never knew there was a difference in the braces!

Hey Deuce here's the scoop on the 40, they are smooth faced bumpers the centerline of the holes for the brackets is 5&1/8 inch next(INNER) hole is 21&1/8 inchs from the outside of the bumper. now, he as 39's also and they have a concave rib all along the middle and their holes are4.75 in and inner hole is 18.25 inchesfrom the outside tip of the bumper. hopes this helps SERGE (INPRIMER)

 

Randy : Drakes and Mac's catalogs show that the 40' front and rear are the same, Standard or Deluxe. Mac's shows the 39' between models different with a pic showing the inner holes further apart on the standard. Hope this helps. Good Luck..... H

The front braces tuck in closer on a Standard than a DeLuxe. I noticed it when I had both........you remember the blue DeLuxe 40 coupe I sold back in 2002. I should have kept it too.....but a blue 40 DeLuxe coupe, a black standard 40 coupe and the Deuce Roadster was just too much. The insurance on all 3 is murder.

I guess I got snookered on EBAY......

I got 1 1940 bumper and 1 1939 bumper......

Oh Well.......thanks for all the help, had me wondering.
