Originally this was a 1940 Ford Engine according to the serial number. It has been completely rebuilt and restored from the fan to resurfaced flywheel, test run, inspected and the camshaft broken in. Truly you are buying an engine that is ready to install. The auction is for the complete engine less exhaust manifolds. Test stand not included. Cleaning The Block: In rebuilding flathead Ford engines I have found that cleaning is the single most important aspect of a cool running reliable engine. Flatheads have been notorious for overheating over the years this does not have to be the case if the engine is built properly. I performed the following three step cleaning process on this engine: · Hot tanking- All blocks are hot tanked and magnaflux inspected for cracks. · Tumbling- Blocks are “tumbled”. This process involves slamming the block on a sheet of plywood. The weight of the block hitting the wood dislodges most of the loose rust and casting slag in the water ports. · Chemical Rust Removal- Blocks are filled with a non-acidic solution of Evapro-Rust to remove remaining rust in the water ports. Each block sits for 8 hours filled before draining and rinsing. The above process removes nearly all of the rust from the water jackets. There is no loose debris to break free and plug you’re your cooling system. Engine Block Machining: After cleaning this block underwent a through machining process. All areas of need have been addressed. · All threaded bolt holes are chased. · This block from the factory with 8 thin wall steel sleeve inserts. All 8 were removed and replaced with NOS Ford Sleeves. · Valve seats reground 3 angle, 30-45-60. Porting and Relieving: This block is mildly ported. · Porting- All sharp edges and burrs have been removed from the intake and exhaust ports. The relief area between the valve seats and bore has been blended as well. Rotating Assembly: Stock Ford · Crankshaft- OEM Ford Cast. 3.75 stroke · Connecting Rods- Ford 91A connecting rods. They have been resized on both ends with new bushings installed · Pistons- NOS Ford 4 ring Aluminum. Finishing off the short block are NOS Ford main and connecting rod bearings, Dura Bond camshaft bearings and Grant piston rings. Camshaft Lifters and Valve train: Nothing was spared or compromised on the valve train of this engine. · Camshaft- Vintage Weber F5S. This camshaft has not been ground in many years. It features .360 lift and 265 duration. · Lifters- OEM Ford non-adjustable. They have been correctly refaced. · Valve Springs- Red’s Headers Lincoln Zepher Reproduction. · Guides- Egge machine 1 piece hardened iron. · Valves- SI Industries Steel. Size is stock 1.50 on the intake and exhaust. Speed Equipment: This engine has been period modified to fit in a 1936 and older Ford. It will work in a Model A application without modifying the firewall. · Heads- These are original Ford “A” castings that have been milled .040. This increases compression to 7.50:1 · Intake- Weiand Super Dual 2x2. This style of manifold works better then the more common narrow 2x2. This manifold is in excellent condition with no damage or weld repairs. · Generator & Fan- This engine features an Offenhauser offset generator bracket and a custom center mount cooling fan that is in the stock location for a 32-36 Model car. · Carburetors- Original USA made Holley 94’s. These have been fully restored and re-dichromated. They are topped with new chrome air cleaners. · Distributor- 1942 Style Ford crab cap fully rebuilt. Stock Accessories: All of the original components on this engine have been completely rebuilt and restored. · Oil pan – Correct rear sump 1940 oil pan. · Water Pumps- Dennis Carpenter reproduction with sealed bearings and high flow impellers. · Starter & Generator- Rebuilt OEM Ford 6 volt generator and Starter. · Miscellaneous- All the stock items that typically go missing over the years are attached to this engine. It has the spark plug wire looks, starter brace, and the original oil filter assembly. Also attached is an OEM ford flywheel that has been lightened. Break In & Tuning: After the rebuild the engine has been test run and the camshaft has been broken in. Total the engine has about 2 hours of run time on the test stand. During this time the heads have been re-torqued twice, carburetors have been synchronized and adjusted and jetted using a wideband O2 sensor, and the ignition timing has been set. About Vintage Engine Works: I am a one man shop specializing in the total restoration and customization of vintage engines, primarily Flathead Ford V8's. We do all machining except crank grinding in house. There is nothing we do not do to the flathead ford engine. Hardened seats, professional porting and relieving, cylinder head re-dishing are just some of the specialized services we offer. If your local machine shop can’t; we can. If this is not the engine that you are looking for please feel free to e-mail. I have several 59A and 8BA cores available. I can build you anything from a short block to a complete engine as seen here. Trades: As with all items for sale I would entertain a part or full trade. I would be interested in a 1948 and older Ford car. No motorcycles, pickups or cars newer then the 1970’s. Payment & Shipping: I would prefer local pickup on this engine if at all possible. I will ship the engine if you want me to. If the engine is shipped a $100.00 crating fee applies.
