Keep up the good work! Love the 40 Panels! A friend of mine just outside of town owns one. He bought it in 1966 for $350. I took this pic on Monday. The hood was removed so he can work on it.
I was hoping you would see this thread, Scott. Thought maybe the op might have an extra set of doors but, it would be an expensive ship from Finland.
The differences between '40 and '41 pickups and panels were few: '41 has a deeper front crossmember to clear the 6 cylinder engine that was introduced as an option in '41. The parking light lenses are different--'40 is flat and '41 is raised. The hood chrome and center grille bar are wide on '41 and narrow on '40. '41 Ford emblems on the hood sides are in a rectangular block, with the same emblem also mounted in the center of the dash. '40 has no emblem in the center of the dash, and the Ford emblems on the hood sides are the same as '40 car. Possible that a '40 got wrecked in the front end and repaired with parts from a '41. I've seen many cars that were repaired with different model year parts that will interchange--'38 trucks with '39 grilles and vice versa.
Thanks and good to get more information. I was wonder those hood rims etc. 1940 should have more narrow center emblem etc. But I have looked body over and everywhere same dark green colour. Same colour inside panels, hood, fenders, body everywhere,... Only dash and doors are repaint red. Looks that there is not changed front parts from anorher car,1941 ford. Is it possible that this car is "late" 1940 and they have mixed new style parts to last 1940 panel deliverys, in Ford production line? Also wirings, dash, all in frame, brakes, steering are "untouch". VIN is also original stamping, not restamped and I have original 1940 Tittle from Pennsylvania. I found also old Pennsylvania Ford dealer stickers in body and hood (inside). Tranny is original, but engine has changed 1953 8BA. AULIS

AULIS[/QUOTE]............................It's very possible. Henry was notorious for not tossing out any parts from previous yrs. production.
Aulis, You are the man...I love what you are doing and your skills are great. I like that you are going to take this and your 7 year old son to swap meets and sleep in the back. This is the kind of things that make memories that your son will never forget. Plus I love the panel truck. It is going to be so cool when you are done with it. Can't wait to see it done. Dennis
Hello, Thanks Dennis. Nice to read positive feedback after we have travelled all long day seeing my mother and father in North-Finland. I like old style way of living,... When I was Young , middle of countryside, in the evening i was going to talk and listen old blacksmiths, forrest workers, farmers,... Hard and easy living. Easy way to live and go is more enjoyable and gives good feeling,.... Oscar is now 4.5y old and interested in all what we do (rake, cut firewoods, bleed hot rod brakes, weld,....). I hope that he will be more interested in Ice-Hockey like my neighbour boy (jussi jokinen - pittsburg penguins, nhl), drives motocross,.... or something interesting. Im not buy him Junior Dragster etc. I belive that is not right way to enjoy dragracing or hot rodding. I was working Mornings and evenings in cowhouse and days outside of home (school or work) before I was 15y old and earn money to my first american car, old roadracing motorcycles etc. Feels better to earn own hobby than get all free,... I have been interested in (all of my life) old houses, historical things/ furnitures, hot rods, old race cars and MC´s or all what is near of those things.... AULIS Dare to be different, but keep it simple and appreciate history
Anything is possible at model change time. For instance, '33 Ford cars built late in the model run got '34 style grilles and hoods.
Happy to have found this thread as I too have just bought a 40 Ford panel truck. Mine is an origional Shell oil delivery from back in the 40's and 50's. Still has the original keys and skeleton keys from the station hanging in the ignition and early phone number 5 painted on the side. I have the original title and mine says 40 but like yours it has the wide hood ornament and block hood emblems. My front end pieces appear to have never been changed also. I am inclined to agree with the late 40 production run theory or maybe they sold deluxe models.I am enjoying your build and will be watching. Dennis
Hey, Finland, I don't think panels had anything between the seatbacks and the cargo you might carry. Have seen several over the decades but never remember a bulkhead of any kind. Gonna be a cool, unique ride.
I was just cut plywood wall between cabin and trasport area. there are original steel "sleeves" in body, so I can make quick locking studs. Easy lift off wall with window. Fenders, doors, hood painted. 40% matting base mixed to RAL-8019 Glasurit acryl. I like. I have never had any brown car before this. Aulis
Thank You Sir. Look my 1932 cab pics (my another thread). I like that car very much. Original CA car and now get registered. Yesterday I take first 20miles "sightseeing" w/o problems. Seems that my engine machinery jobs and carb rebuildings etc. works Ok. Nice sound with lakesters only (small mufflers in collectors). AULIS
I am in heaven having found your thread today. Great work. Glad you are keeping it as original as possible. I have a 1940 1-1/2 ton dually panel delivery fire engine. You could do me a huge favor. What is the dimension from the front of the seat adjustor blocks (they overhang the footwell patch panels you installed) to the rear of the panel below the seat. I believe that is where the floor transitions to the wood cargo floor. A picture of that area would be helpful. A portion of the floor behind the seats was removed to install the fire pump. The panel below the seats rusted and was repaired with plywood. I plan to have the footwell panels and underseat panel replaced and am trying to figure out where the under seat patch panel will end with respect to the pump. Thanks. Pictures of my panel are on Ford-Trucks.com under FireEngineMike.
Thanks Mike. I save Your pictures Sunday evening When Im laying around on sofa. I have been 4-5days sick, but today need to continue sand body. AULIS
First drive! 10meters out from garage and back in. Tomorrow I go to spray rear doors and running boards. 2days working with body and that is also ready for new paint. I had 2pc gauges, I mixed one good set. Wirings are 1941-47 ford and Im gonna use those. Maybe need to change something, but all new wiringset paid 30usd in CA, so I do not care if i need to work little with those. All wirings are brand new. Need to install converter (12V --> 6V) before gauges and need to do something with 6V alternator. I want to use this car 12Volt system. AULIS
Rear doors and running boards are ready. Today I paint filler. (+14dec celsius outside, 57 fahrenheit). Spring is coming, weather is going warmer and days are longer and longer. AULIS
Thank You Sirs. Not show quality, only for go. Inside (cabin, cargo area, engineroom) old paint, rost,..... patin. Outside new paint, but not too nice. Tomorrow (Sunday) I sand 6-7hours and get ready during Monday. Hope that body has get "chocolate coat" middle of the week. Pekka " Wizzzard" Mannermaa is make simple pinstripes and maybe my hot rod shop logos both side,..... He, "artits", decides what and where. I have trust his +35years experience. Aulis
Finally body is ready in paintroom. Tomorrow, Tuesday, morning I go to spray colour over the body and last small parts. Aulis
Inner fenders coated, and fenders finished inside. all bolted in their places. Tomorrow hood, runningboards,.... Note my delivery car. AULIS
Hi Auliz: The Panel is looking great. They are unique and fine statements of the wonderful bygone Era of the stylish auto. Are you keeping the wheels the light color? Just my opinion they don't work with the whitewalls. Keep up the good work. Thanks. TEB
