Does anyone have any information on 1940 Ford Panel Trucks. What are the different variants, wheelbases, etc. Were the 1/2 ton frames the same as pickups? Differences in the frames -- 1/2, 3/4, 1 ton..... Compared to a 41? I picked one up where some one hacked off the front of the frame, besides there being rot in the rails too. Web search is turning up nothing for me. Thanks in advance....
The ‘40 Commercial Car Panel was 112” wb and shares the basic suspension and frame with pickups and autos. The big truck based Panel Delivery has a larger suspension and frame and was available in both 122” and 134” wb. If you have front sheet metal a quick spotting feature will be the hood. If it has plain sides it is a 112” Commercial Car, and if the sides have six (or is it seven?) horizontal louvers on the hood you have a big truck.
There is front fenders in the back of the delivery, but no hood. I am ***uming they are for this truck. The fenders look like they may be the same as the 1/2T fenders with large holes in them for headlight pods, not headlight stands. So the larger trucks have a longer WB, thus a longer, heavier frame. I may be in luck....I have a few 35-40 frames.
