Here's another Yellow '40, my tudor sedan. Thought about going black w/flames, or the burgundy color that it was before the previous owner painted it yellow. Metallic Green had crossed my mind too. But now after 3 years, the yellow's grown on me, so when it's on a new ch***is, it will be re done in yellow. Same yello all over though, not the 5 different shades it wears now! CraigR
CruZer..Had a yellow coupe like that. Flathead powered, brown upholstery. Left Tucson in the late 70's never to be seen again.
Z.DIDDY and OL SCROUNGER..Man do we think alike on color and stance. Z.DIDDY..glad to see you survived the flathead/SBC thread ok..
The hood looks more like a standard then a Deluxe but the fenders and headlight bezels look yo be 40 Deluxe.
The only thing I can detect is when you are looking through the window you don't see the rest of the hi-lo behind it, just dense shrubbery, Seeing as you flopped the photo looking to the left the shrubbery doesn't look as dense there either. I give up.
Alright, I need an explanation. The yellow one that this post is concerning has a different grill etc...someone explain please. Different model or is that the difference between the 39 and the 40? Is the yellow one a '39? Confused...
ok, stay with me, there were two models, the Standard which is the waterfall grill and the Deluxe which is the three piece looking grill. In 1939. The windshield wipers were on the roof, not on the cowl like on the 40 models. The 40 Stanard was the 39 Deluxe and the 39 Standard the 38 Deluxe. I hope I didn't totally confuse you now.
There was a very good 39/40 picture thread a few years ago, but I can't find it in the search - here's a few others I did find: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=286957 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=225091 http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=44958 (this one is Mercs) And of course, carnut.com: http://www.carnut.com/photo/39-41/05/39-41p1.html
JCurtis- The '40 Standard coupe you were looking for belongs to one Bob Lick who hails from Baker City Oregon. He is a dyed in the wool hotrodder. No streetrodder. He runs a 303/324 tri-power Olds in the coupe with '39 box, and stock or Olds rearend. The reason the fenders are primered is not for some visual effect, he used to drag race the car and he bounced it off the wall and has never gotten back to spotting it back in color. The car is detailed to the nuts, including chrome garnish moldings, black 'n white tuck, and he drives the car everywhere. He has often been seen at Bakersfield- HotRod reunion. Running alongside him is Jim Lindsay and his chopped '33 5-window. Jim is also a traditional hotrodder. He has a warmed over flatmotor and a quickchange is the coupe. He is now running the coupe in a coat of fresh red-oxide with an o-so-clean early '50's look. The coupe is also equipped with a roll-cage for an every so often trip down the strip. I have known both guys and their hotrods for many years and they are good friends with very *****in' rods.
The Deluxe Coupe I bought in my senior year of 65. The Black truck I have had for 5 years now and the 40 project truck for about a year now.
I am bringing this back up as I was doing a search for 39-40 Coupe pics and didn't find much yet. Can't believe there isn't more pics of one of Henry's best.
Here's one for sale locally (around $4000) Man I wish I had more time and cash - hell even one of the two would be good!!
I've had this 40 Tudor Deluxe since January this year. Bought here in Aussie. Was advertised in the HAMB mid 2013. I'm trying to find out early information as to its origins, supposedly Ca. mid 50's.then moved to Oregon in the early 60's.shown & cruised and then stored in 1978. Has a '56 322 nailhead under the hood, original ET mag's up front and gold painted steel wheels with MT slicks on the rear.Upholstered with Black naugahyde diamond pattern upholstery with silver ****ons. Has remnants of a '56 Indianopolis Drags Entrants sticker on rear window. Stock suspension & brakes.I suspect it was street rather than strip dragster. Although no wiring apart from ignition, or exhausts connected except steel tube headers exiting the fenderwell. I would dearly like to have further information, should anyone be old enough to remember this car.
