So, I went to my local sheet metal store, and bought a sheet of 18 ga 4' x 10' cold rolled sheet steel. Using my patterns, I replicated them on my sheet metal and cut them out, being inspired by a thread by @Da Tinman I used a couple of pieces of angle iron, and beat into submission my patterns, then ***embled the pieces. If this were in area that I wasn't covering with insulation, I'd probably have broke down and bought a decent sheet metal brake....but this isn't something I intend to do any more of...well, there is the floor. CAD is our friend. For those who haven't used it: cardboard aided design. I had a 40 years ago so I fully understand what you're up against. A man who has done 9 trucks knows more than me.
I wouldn't go that far. Joatmon might be more appropriate J jack O of A all T trades M master O of N none
I created this piece for the dash...they're so plain, I wanted something different. I'll end up having it pinstripped, and the lower part for my headlight/wiper/ and heater switches...no option truck here.
I cut out the previous owner installed oval dash piece, and went with this straight piece Inside look at firewall, and new floor.
The cab is solid/rust free, the roof has it seems the mandatory little bumps and bruises, but nothing time and patience can't straighten out as you know. It came with two hoods, both a bit rough....I was fortunate to find a good one here locally. The rear fenders are great, front fenders with require some work, but not terrible. The bed came with a new tailgate, new front panel, and a new piece below the tailgate, bed sides are rough, but fixable. Running boards are nice, minimal work required. Doors are decent. Of all of these trucks I've had, this is the best start as a project.
