anyone know where to get a patch panel for a 40 pickup lower rear fender area by running board?

i searched and found EMS metals but they say they are for a car and discontinued the truck patch panel about 8-9 yrs ago due to low demand.

i wonder if the 40 car leading edge by the running board could be modified slightly to fit my truck or if my best bet is to try to find someone to hand shape a patch or look for a donor truck lower fender which i hate to destroy a fender to save mine that someone else could use unless the fender is unsavable except the running board area.

i can cut and weld and slightly form sheetmetal, but that lower area is well above my level, plus my concern for weakness if i start piecing and welding a bunch of pieces in there and trying to smooth with bondo will be a worry spot for cracking down the road.

    any ideas are appreciated

    thanks howard

Yes the car can be used with a little work, the car differs from the truck by these pionts

the truck does not have the cut out on the bolt face between the board and the fender

the truck goes in about 2-4 inches (i cant remember) more than the car so it car reach the bed,all you need to do is add this to the car patch

I found the the EMS car fender patches had to be modified to fit the car. If you make a template of the attachment area on the running board and use that to begin building the fender fix, you will find it goes faster. Piece and weld small sections at a time.

the 35-40 fender patch is a fairly generic piece, it does require a modest amount of trimming for each particlular model. since ford sourced fenders from different vendors and the wheel opening is a secoundary operation variences do exsist. in this case when are speaking about truck only and they are different than 40 cars. how each model changes in the 6 year spread is a discussion on its own.

I found a guy on Craigslist in Los Molinos Ca., who has early Ford truck parts. Name is Jim, I've bought parts from him and he's very fair. Look in Sacramento or SFbay area craigslist, auto parts ,and type in 1940. Good luck!

Hbrown, send me a pic of the area you want and how much of the fender will need to be replaced and I'll make a proper fitting patch that's the same gauge. I have my fenders here for reference. Thanks Tyler
