Hey everyone, I'm a first time rodder and I have a pretty basic question to those who can help me. I've got a stock 1940 ford rear axle and I want to mount my model A spring to it. I have the stock '40 shackles and the o.d. fits my model A spring but some older hot rod fellas told me I need a special tool to press these shackles in. Is this true? If it is where can I find one of these tools? Thanks for sheding some light for me.

My special tool was a mallet.

My suggestion would be to skip trying to use the original style press in shackles and use the street rod urethane bushing shackles available at any of the street rod shops. These can be simply installed with out any special tools and give you less headaches.

What sort of headaches are encountered with the original style bushings?
