Hey guys, Just got a question regarding my stock temp gauge, I've converted to 12 volt, but when my ignition is off my temp gauge goes to hot instead of cold, is this normal or is something playing up? Any info would be good Cheers John Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Hey, trailer-Ed, I converted my stock '40 gauges to 12 volt but the only one that operates correctly is the oil pressure. The fuel gauge registers close to full when the tank is full, but quickly starts dropping as if I am getting 5 mpg. It registers empty with about 4-5 gallons left (new stock tank). I have Runtz units on each gauge, so do you have anything on this problem? Appreciate any help. Thanks much in advance.
I put one of the macs "all guage" reducers on my 40 ford guages. My fuel tank always read full for forever, and when it started to drop, it was time to find a gas station fast. Still does. It now also fluctuates a bit, sometimes, with RPM. It doesnt always, but itll sometime read full while driving, and while sitting at a light itll drop to half, then return to full (when I know the tank is full) when i take off. I also found that the guages didnt work at all IF i grounded the reducer like you are supposed to. It worked for the first little while, then they quite, I started to take it off, and it started to work again. As soon as I re touched the ground wire, they would quit. Not sure whats up with that. I think I may also had to reverse the ground wires on the guages themselves to get them to work when I converted, perhaps try that? There seems to be a lot of variables in getting the guages to work on 12, they will, but sometimes it takes strange proceedures to get them to do it
This is what I did when I converted my 40 Ford to 12V, negative ground. Also used an a 1 wire alternator. It all works fine, including the BATT gauge. I used the stock 6V fuel tank sending unit and stock FUEL gauge since the instrument cluster remained at 6V. You will notice that the BATT gauge was isolated from the rest of the gauges and operates by itself by reducing the incoming 12V to that gauge to 6V using a 60 ohm resistor http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=48622&highlight=1940+battery+gauge+12V+conversion
