I am trying to replace the vent window seals on my 1940 Ford Coupe. I've removed the vent window. Judging from my research and the new seal, I think I need to remove the vent window ***embly to put the new seal in place. Any good tips on how best to do this? Thanks, Eric

Replacing the seals on my delivery caused me to use some @#$%^&* words and I did remove the entire vent wing ***embly. Not difficult but certainly tries one's patience. Maybe Old Scrounger on here can shed some light on this task. He has done a bunch of them.

Not a major task but time consuming to get right. You must remove the vent wing which entails removing the rivets at the top hinges. Then remove vent window from frame-carefully install vent seals in channel making sure the holes/slots are in the correct position. Install vent wing shaft thru rubber seal making sure to replace spacers and springs as they came out . Last replace the top rivet in the hinge (no screws/bolts pls)-Rivets are available at Ace hardware or may have come with the seal kit. This is a two people job. Adjust tension on spring for right amt of resistance. Make sure you double ck the spacers to set the vent wing right or you will have a gap at the top and the lock handle will hit and scratch the garnish.

Good advice. It's also a good time to refinish the frame and replace gl*** if needed.

All - I really appreciate the feedback, this is a huge help. I am planning to refinish the frame and gl***. Working to bring my Dad's 40 back to life and having fun learning (and screwing up) as I go. Thank you for the guidance.

Resurrecting this thread, just taken my door frames out for chroming, vents need to come out. read that vent seals come with fittings, also read that there are different seals depending on body style. Drakes list seals with fittings, but only one type, can anyone clarify if the one vent seal design does all closed cars? Oh, and while we’re here, how does the vent gl*** come out?
