  1. Good luck keeping it. It would be a shame for a car that sweet to leave when someone in the family wants to save it. If you need ill come get it and hide it for you in my shop! You gotta save that thing!

49 Dodge Wayferer bumper on the rear was a popular custom trick of the day.
The wood on the dash was probably used because it would 'resemble' the original faux wood trim that the Mercurys shared. ... As others have pointed out, check the wheel bolt pattern, should be the same as Ford truck rim up to 1980's. Heck, your Dodge truck used Ford bolt pattern as well so compare the wheel bolt pattern to your Dodge, the only difference between Ford and Dodge truck rim is that one has a larger center hub/hole than the other.
Underneath the car you will be looking for a Ford Banjo Rearend. So named because the center section is un-bolted from the 2 end/axle tubes leaving a round center section that would resemble the body of a banjo...

  3. Hope you can end up with it. Here's some shots of a stock 40Merc dash. the ribbed area is plastic and is very difficult to find. I don't believe it is being reproduced. At least it wasn't when I had my 40 Merc, So that is probably why it has the wood there.
The rear bumper is definately a 49 Plymouth and was a very popular bumper on early customs.

Show him a copy of the March 2015 Street Rodder cover car. If that's not enough incentive to keep the car I don't know what is. Just a vision as to what your car could become. By all means at least check it out for yourself.

have had two of these cars...know them top to bottom.Any questions that you have I can help or can look up.There were no large manuals for these cars..just service bullitens put together to go by for info.I have managed to find everything I needed to put my cars together and I don't mind sharing info......one last thing...don't let anyone talk you out of any parts....trim,etc.This is a one year only body for most of these parts, and once they are gone you will play hell finding them again if you need them

  10. No doubt about the parts. Just read the new street rodder with omme on the cover. They say that there was inly about 5900 of those ever made! That thing is rare....

only 900 of the 4-door merc convertibles made....also check where the kick panel on both sides meet the floor....there should be a large cast iron support there on each side...convertible only,as well as the bottom of the door post on each side at the step where the rear seat mounts two more large cast iron supports. They are all needed for frame and body support

  16. Good luck with the Merc - hopefully you get to find a way to keep it in the family and get it on the road. I have a 40 Merc coupe - stock at the moment, but will "go under the knife" in a big way at some point! :)
