My 1940 Willys pickup has hydraulic front 9 " brakes. My question is. Is the longer lining to the front or rear??

  2. Little shoe to the front big shoe to the rear .

Primary shoe is pulled into the drum and secondary shoe drags into the drum

Do they have anchors at the bottom, or free floating on an adjustable link?

My 1935 to 48 Motors Auto Repair Manual shows that the 1940-48 Wilys used Lockheed style brakes with 2 adjustable anchors on the bottom. My 1940 Ford had Lockheed brakes with 2 adjustable anchors on the bottom. On Lockheed brakes the longer goes on the front and the shorter shoe goes on the rear.
With Bendix brakes the longer shoe goes on the back and the shorter shoe goes on the front.
Can you post a photo of what your backing plate looks like with the anchors installed?

Be sure to follow STEP # 5 when writing your report as shown in routine report example:
    5. Edit and proof read your report.
You might also want to take a course in technical report writing to hone your skills.
