Technical 1940s 1950s Hub cap paint

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Baron Engineering, May 26, 2025.

  1. I’ve searched what books I have and asked who I think would know in the local community, but I cannot find out what candy-ish red paint was used on hubcaps in the 40s-50s.
I have 3 caps that have the same factory/stock color on them - Plymouth, Lyons and Mercury and would like to touch them up.
I’m hoping someone could shed some light on what color was used, it’s almost an iridescent red.

  2. I was looking for something similar, and ended up using scale model enamel (those little tins). The colour was a good match, and it was a fine metallic too.

  3. I thought about that old Testors paint, good thinking!
