I'm trying to decide what color to paint my chevy, I am leaning towards a maroon color. i had a discussion today with my paiter and we feel its better to forego the metallic paint in favor of the straight color. I was at the interior shop yesterday and he had a 41 ford drop top solid maroon the color seems to be so deep.

What do you think straight paint or metallic?

A buddy of mine painted his 67 camaro a maroon rasberry type color with 3 different metal flakes in it. Mostly gold metal flake. Its real subtle but looks great in the sun. Real deap looking.

solid would be more original to the car, both can look good.
i'd opt for the solid in your case though

I'd look close at some of the original colors of the late '30's early '40's.
    Just my take.

  9. Paint it solid with a good single stage paint. If you get a rock chip you can build up the chipped spot with a touch up brush and some left over paint. Wet sand it with 2000 grit, buff it with some compond by hand and it's gone...

The first use of metalic paints was in '27. I like the solid colors myself.

  12. NO metallic......Solid, with any period correct color you prefer. Maroon would be a great choice.

  13. My uncle Frank Natale always told me about his 1940 Merc he bought new that had, according to him, the first metallic maroon paint ever offered.

  14. Here is a man who knows HISTORY. Some of the big name car clubs like the AACA and the Classic Car Club use that as a guideline - metallics (opalescents mostly) were introduced for automotive use in 1927 and some of the high end cars used them.
