Damn I love these pics...someday I'm going to do a '41-'48 Ford/Merc. (If I ever finish my damn shoebox that is)
Jeff, that '41 with the running boards and lower body roll removed in that 4pack of pics looks neat! I've never seen that done on a '41-'48 body before...interesting
Check out the guys standing around looking at this sled .They are probably just blown away with what they are looking at and thinking ...."What the fu#& have these guys done to this car " but loving it at the same time.
Thanks Jeff!! That thing looks like it taking off,but its parked. i also love that i have 2 of those plaques sitting right next to me.
Those guys are just blown away at how beautiful this car looks. check out the curb feeler in the skirt. This car looks a mile long with the fad aways!!
I was told that this was taken at the Ayala Brothers shop and the street in the background is Olympic Blvd.
Bickford.......... you have 2 of what ??? Pm me if u are serious and they are real. The fadeaways.... All of my favorite 40 customs have fadeaway fenders, its becoming almost mandatory for me when it comes to 40s customs.
LOL I think you know what he is talking about. I agree about the fadeaways they look great and really make the 40's model cars flow so much better from front to back. Really creates a great line for the eye to follow.
Jeff, that looks like it could be Ayala's shop on Olympic. The area has a lot of the old buildings. Worth a look.
But then picture has the sign all the way to the right that doesnt jive. You are right though Phil,a lot of them little buildings are still left on Olympic Blvd even today.
I used to go to there when Gil had the T Bird with the extruded fins in the show room. I was about 11 or 12. They were pretty tolerant of neighborhood kids.
I got these to plaques from Kurt McCormick. I bought one from him over a year ago. Then i called him last month and he sold me his last one. I love fadeaways on 40s customs. Ive been looking over my 41 chevy. trying to see if it will flow right or not.
Can any of you guys see fadeaways on a 41 chevy like this? It gets trick cause the front fender has a lot of curve to it on the top.
I think it could be done to look good. From a full on profile shot I don't think the fenders have nearly as much curve as this picture makes them out to have. They are deep though and that may be more of a problem trying to get the door openings right with that deep a fadeaway but I have never seen one in person so I am just flapping my gums based on pictures.
WOW! How lucky you are to have memories of going to that shop.I have been told Gil would let kids hang around and watch for as long as they wanted.I only drive by there now and just imagine all the cars that turned into that corner spot.
Very quick Photoshop... it can be done but you need to start the fade away at the top portion of the front fender.
Looks pretty good Rik!!!! I would run it into the rear fenders a little lower,it would make the fadeaway at a little bit of a steeper angle.I know you just did that one real quick but it still looks good.We dont hardly ever see fadeaways on chevys and I think they look good and should be done when it comes to a 40s custom.
Jeff, either Al or Gil had a pipe and flat stock sort of jig for bending forks. I heard he would squirt extra paint on a bike, if you would paint it. I got the bent forks treatment and caught hell from my pops. I moved to the desert soon after. Lowrider bicycles started there, IMO.
