Many hot rodders had kustoms and mild kustoms in order to tow their bonneville racers to the lakes, so I guess also a lot of people also used their "tow car" as pushcars. What I like most about old photos from Bonneville is to see all the daily driven kustoms that were parked around the racing area
You always see pictures of the cars parked around the race area but I can't remeber another of one being used as a push vehicle. Although Gil raced the car as well so it really was a multi purpose vehicle and super cool to boot.
AutoBilly, Thanks for the update on the poster. If anyone wants to view his art Type in Robert Williams and it should come up . He does some great art.
JW Deuce - I'd love to find out more about your Grandpas car! (you can see why from my avatar) Know what year were these pics taken? Can't wait to see more - you're lucky to have such a cool Grandpa!
I've noticed something and would like an answer please. Is it a "requirement" that a custom have skirts? Seems as though it is.
no, valley custom actually radiused the rear wheelwells on some cars, so you could see the rear wheel as well.
It would takes a really Dumb guy to think one of those is the Matranga !! different bumpers, hubcaps, stance, side windows... not to mention stupid looking windshield
I'm glad you did. I've been away for a couple years and this is the type of thing I missed about the HAMB.
go on, rub it in. I miss it too, but when I look at the three cars I bought with the money, It's worth it. I just wish the guy that bought it would show it a little more.
37 business coupe from FuelPump here on the HAMB Model A PU from another HAMB member looks like this now and put about 15K into my F100
My dad was a teenager in California in the 40's. He moved to Iowa in the early 50's and brought the west coast customizing bug with him. He found his 36 cabriolet in 1957 and started building his dream car like the ones he remembered growing up in the 40's. It only took him (and eventually me) 50 years to get it finished.
I've been wondering where you have been. And more importantly I've been wondering how my old 37 is doing. And from the loooks of it it is doing just fine.
Hey guys,............. these last few (except the '36) don't look like "40's PREIOD CORRECT TO ME,..... but I guess I could be wrong.
Yes, I agree that none of my current vehicles come close to a 40's custom. I apologize for the off topic pictures. Craig
