Novadude, Lots of upgrades before a new paintjob.

Done: rewired ( Looked like a rats nest under the dash )
new master cylinder ( SSBC , great part )
S10 rear springs ( rides like it has a suspension now )
Bucket seats and tilt steering column ( so I can actually enjoy sitting in it)

To Do : Dropped spindles and disc bakes (Nova clip with drums on now)
Paint it up (Maroon with Black fenders )

As far as the back goes, I rely on my 16 year old now to do alot of the work as I have nerve damage and dont get around as well as I would like. He is a great kid and is building himself a '49 F1 now.

    Wishin you the best toolman,
my son is a blessing to me too,
he cut and stretched the s ten frame that is under my hot rod 41 now,
    he is a good welder.
still a ton of work to do, but the body is sitting on it,
    My to do:
fab a trans tunnel, body work, need glass and wiring,
engine mounts, brakes, seat, mount the bed, lights, etc etc
you can see it in my profile,
I am still lookin for a pass side running board for a 1/2 ton,
someone here has one in Utah, but its quite a drive,
    maybe in the spring.
And I have a stock truck that needs work as well.
Seems like it will never end sometimes.
Do a little here and there when time and money allows.

  3. Sorry 1bad42pickup, I haven't looked this post over lately. I've done three Chevy to Isuzu swaps by now. The first one was a 2 wheel drive pickup frame and here is what I did for mounts. I heated up the rubber from the Isuzu mounts and basically un vulcanized them, from there I welded some steel and pipe to create a mount to bolt to a rubber chevy mount. These mounts bolt onto the Isuzu frame in the exact same holes where the 4 cylinder was bolted. For the transmission mount, I cut and modified the Isuzu mounting bracket and used a TH350 rubber mount. next I will post what I did on the 4x4 frames.
looking back over this post and I noticed the pictures didn't down load. I will try it again today.

  4. Now on the Isuzu Trooper mounts to Chevy small block here is what I did. Cut cardboard patterns to mate up with the orginal Isuzu mounting holes. Used 1/4" steel and bent a couple of ears into it. Bolted that plate in and Welded a 2x2" riser to mate to the Chevy rubber mounts, bored slotted holes in that, and welded some gussets to the frame for strenght. Rear crossmember was real easy, under the frame there are some holes Isuzu bored in the frame and they just happen to center up with the tranmission mount. I was able to fish a 1/2" bolt down in those holes after running a 1/2" drill bit in them. I used a piece of 2x3 tube for crossmember, and bolted my stock Chevy mount to that.
next is what I did for the Honda Passport/Isuzu Rodeo frame.

  5. Now on this truck I am using an Isuzu Rodeo/Honda Passport frame. I bought "Welder Series" Chevy motor mount kit. I cut off the factory mounting tabs, and trimmed the Welder Series mounts and welded them in. I Used the same method to mount the transmission as I did in the Trooper frame. In the last shot it shows four 2 1/2 " square tubes I welded into the frame to mount the cab.

  6. the last bit of information I want to share with you is, when you use a TH400 tranmission is this Honda Passport/Isuzu Chassis, the transmission is a little longer and I used a 1 1/2" square tubing for crossmember. I bolted it to the torsion bar brackets, it was near perfect fit. I also shortened up the drive shaft a couple of inches and used a combination u joint on the front of it because Honda and Chevy use the same
u-joints, #1310. Also reused the Honda shifter, brake booster, swinging pedals and the steering column. Saves a ton on money.

That is a cool truck wingedexpress, shame you let it go,,

  8. Let's try to down load the pictures of the motor mounts I built for Crusty #1. Now on this build, I used a 1991 Isuzu pickup chassis. I took the old motor mounts off the 4 cylinder, using my torch, I heated up the mount and un vulcanized the rubber from the steel. Trimmed up the steel, welded some flat bar and a piece of tubing that matches the old Chevy Rubber mounts. These mounts bolt right onto the orginal Isuzu motor mount brackets. I ended up trimming less than and inch off the left side mount for clearance on the low mount alternator. Onto the transmission mount, I modified the Isuzu mounting bracket to accept a Chevy TH350 tranmission mount from an 85 Chevelle.

This is a friend of mines 44. Been trying to get it from him for a couple of years. It's interesting to see the war vehicles - the body welds are not "finished" since they weren't allowed to use lead as a filler. The gas filler tube gasket is made of leather instead of rubber and no chrome for the grill either.

This truck is SOOOOO not a traditional hotrod, but since this thread is 99.99 percent off topic rigs, I'll bite. I built this one for a customer in Las Vegas to haul motorcycles......

  16. I see you've got the bug too, that makes 3x 41 thru 46 trucks now for you, right? Same here. You bought that in my old stomping grounds, I spent a lot of time in Cloverdale in my youth. Matter of fact I still have family there. I grew up just up the road in Boonville. Lived and worked 13 years in Santa Rosa.
What ya got planned for this one?

  17. What a nice truck. I bet that 292 with 4 speed makes for a fine driving machine.

  20. Come on you guys with the "Art Deco" 41-46 Chevy Trucks. Can't believe you're letting this thread die down.
The Puyallup Swap meet got me buzzed up, and I have been working on Crusty Cruiser #3. Never did find that stake pocket I was looking for nor that original tail gate. I suppose I'll purchase a new stake pocket from one of the few vendors that advertise parts for these trucks. At the swap meet I swapped a twenty dollar bill for a 55-59 Chevy tail gate. Going to have to trim off a little here a little there to make it fit. I've already cut 18 " from the sides of the box and will cut about 5" from the width.
Today was spent getting the swinging pedals and the steering column attached. We threw in an orginal bench seat just so I could get a feel for the layout. Took a coffe break and drove Crusty Cruiser #2 (6 wheeler) up the lake road which is always a treat.

    This is a great story!

  25. After getting involved with these trucks, I can spot them from a distance. I love taking pictures of them in just about any conditions.
Here's a few more pictures taken around the Pacific Northwest.

  26. more to come....
Near Prineville Oregon, I spotted this one while on vacation. My cousins and I had gone to this pumpkin farm during Halloween, the farmer said his son had driven this truck from Oregon to California to attend College. Now it just sits gathering moss.
Looked to me like the engine had been changed to a 235.
