    Hello,
I am a long time reader and a first time poster. I have a 1941 Cadillac Flathead we are doing some work too, and I have read about people machining the heads to up the compression ratio. I would like to know by those that are the experts in the field, how much can I safely machine off of the stock head (I have read as much as 1/8"). What will this give me for results, and is there anything else I need to be aware of when we do it. I am a high school automotive instructor and this is something we are doing in my class.

heh....I'd suggest first that you figure out how to keep the engine cool, in it's stock configuration :)

Sounds like a great project! Some info on line, some here. Cleaning up the intake & exhaust ports may help a lot.
