Technical 1941 Chevy Brake Issues

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by soddruntlestuntle, Jan 26, 2016.

  1. Pulled my '41 out of the garage for this first time in about six weeks this past weekend. Got to the end of the driveway, and while the car stopped, when applied, the pedal went straight to the floor. I didn't get a chance to investigate any further, thought I'd check with The Experts here-- with this little to go on, does it appear to be a master cylinder issue? For reference, they are the stock drum brakes.

when you drove it last did it sop OK? have you checked fluid level? have you looked under car at each wheel to see if there is any fluid on them? checked for leaks anywhere in brake system? did you add fluid and try driving it?

  3. Yes, the last time I drove it the car stopped fine. I didn't have time to check the fluid level or check for leaks, but that is what I shall do first.

  4. It's either a master cylinder or wheel cylinders or a busted line

  5. Thanks fellows, much obliged.
Sorry to be so vague, but I am the world's worst at diagnosing. I'm pretty good at repairing, IF I know what the problem is. Will keep you posted.

If you have no pedal pressure, the fluid is going (has gone) somewhere. Look for the puddle.
