ok real quick,i believe i read that pre 62 trannys will bolt right up to my 216,is this correct?so like an early powerglide?what about using a more modern starter?are there adapters for that or?looking for cheapest way out..................heres a pic of my 41

    i cut the roof off,chopped windshield 8 inches,shaved the handles,welded door shut,smoothed gas filler.

    cheapest way out of what?

'50-62 iron powerglide from a 235 will work, V8 ones will not.

note that 6 and 12 volt flywheels and starters will not interchange due to different tooth counts.

    only a 216/235/261 stater will work. '37-54 for 6 volt, '55-62 for 12 volt.

You can run a 6 volt starter on 12 volts.

Chevy upped the engine to a 235 when they started using the powerglide transmission....I suggest you do the same.

54 and older cars use the closed driveline. 55 up are open driveline. Are you planning to change the rear axle?

And the Powerglide is probably not much of an "upgrade" for your car.

The 50 PG should bolt onto the 216, but you might want to measure the overall length of the two transmissions first to make sure the torque tube is the right length, also look at what it will take to mount it, I expect the mounts are different between 41 and 50.
