Projects 1941 chevy

    I have a 1941 Chevy I have started taking things apart and noticed a coating on the inside panels not sure what it is its white on top and underneath like tar any body have any ideas I don't want to mess with something like asbestos materials

    Mine has the same thing, especially in the trunk and wheel well area. My dad said it was factory coating most likely for reducing road noise. I have taken it off with a wire wheel. It seems to be more tar like material.

    It was called "body deadener" and is an asphaltic product similar to tar and undercoating.
    Shouldn't be any asbestos in that. Is it possible the white surface coating is paint or primer?
