My little Cyber Monday purchase arrived just in time for Christmas. I haven’t decided whether to keep it on the original ch***is or not. Will either put a pickup bed on it or a flatbed. My goal for now is to get it completely dis***embled so that it can be sandblasted and I get someone started on the body work (not my forte).

Congratulations on a great purchase. The first thing I would do is register and join the Dodge Trucks group.

A fantastic group of people who are very knowledgeable and helpful.

    Dis***embly has begun!

I’m having a tough time figuring out how to get the doors off. The hinge pins are rusted solid and the piece that bolts into the cab frame won’t slide out either. Tips appreciated!

  9. Hinges are riveted onto the door, so it doesn't come apart there! I've had several Dodges and Plymouths (cars and trucks) of that era and on all, the hinge unbolts from the door frame. Yours has 4 bolts in each hinge (I don't remember any hidden ones, but check) and once those are removed, the hinge slides out the side and stays fastened to the door. To remove the hinge from the door, you must remove the door skin first, so you can drill out the spot welds that hold the hinge cover onto the door. (hidden under the door skin)

Yeah, I removed those 4 bolts on each hinge, but it won’t slide out (either door)! See the pic... [IMG]

  11. Did you unscrew the bolts, or did you drill the heads off? If the later the bolts probably stick through the hinge and are caught on the back side. (I'm guessin' here)

my Ford doors also bolted to the cab, and stubborn even with the bolts out. PB blaster did the trick

Also did you remove the strap that stops the door from opening to far? Looks to be still in place in the pic above.....

Some of the Ford trucks have a couple tack welds along with the bolts holding the hinge to the pillar.
Might be a similar deal on your Dodge? Or might just be stuck from rust. Give them a smack with a BFH...:D

Not much done since December. I’m in Boston, but the truck is in the Portland, ME area. I’ve gotten the fenders and a few parts sandblasted. I’m headed up to Maine in a couple weeks to do more work on it - if it’s not too cold! (It’s in an in heated garage.)

Good to hear you're making progress! Maine, AYUP! Oddly enough, both of my sisters recently bought houses in Maine. 1 in Portland and 1 on an island off Portland. The one in Portland is in a little gated community that I plan to scare with my COE this summer... haha....
