Looking for any information about a dry lakes compe***ior named **** Jan Osten. I believe he ran a streamliner and a couple of Bugattis in '41 at Harper and probably elsewhere.

You need to contact Jim Miller of the Hot Rod Society. I believe he has copies of most all the SCTA sanctioned events. A friend who p***ed away had most years and Jim copied them. I no longer know there whereabouts or I would look up that year for you.

Do you mean **** Van Osten? A Richard Van Osten was the editor of Auto Speed & Sport magazine in 1952.
One thing to keep in mind is that an eight-cylinder Bugatti cost about the same as a small house in 1940-41 (The top speed of the fastest 4-cyl. Bugatti was a claimed 80mph).
Tommy Lee had a Bugatti and a streamliner at Harper Lake in 1940, are these the same cars?

The Bugatti shows up at 2:32, the streamliner at 3:37.

@SR100 that streamliner was a full fendered Offenhauser powered car. Not sure if you've ever seen it with it's fenders on.

Terrific film, some customs ****tered a**** the racers, and some really great hot rods and specials. In particular was the Tommy Lee car that ran a 318” Meyer-Drake Offy. Lee’s father had a Cadillac agency in LA and he also started a radio station and eventually a TV station. How about that number 9 Model T with Maxi heads, blower and two Strombergs? The Model A with the banger running two Winfield’s is cool, and speaking of Winfield could that be him at 3:00 and later in the film driving his wife’s ‘40 coupe with her in the car? Too many others to comment on, thanks for bringing that to us.
