I ordered these, have not installed them so cannot vouch for quality yet. http://www.northerncl***ictrucks.com/cabover_corner.htm
Talked to the scmucks at Drakes, they were no help whatsoever. Did not seem to give a ****.

I did end up with those seals from Northern Cl***ic. It was my ignorance of installing them. I finally found a cutaway view that clued me in. They went in OK, but I think they could still be better. I lay the blame on the installer an possibly some deforming in the WS frames.

On another note, I sure am enjoying driving Buford down the road... The reactions from people are really a hoot. The guy at the parts store says "That thing looks EVIL. I mean evil in a good way... and then I see you jump out of it with your Terminator sungl***es on". :)

    "I'll be back".

    DUDE!
I was just perusing your album and saw your steering setup.
Rube Goldberg did a somersault when you ****oned that up!
I'd love to see a video of that in operation steering and tilting...

I remember years ago a coworker showing me those steering V boxes when he was parting out his Rodeo... --edit-- Amigo, not Rodeo... I then remember being excited to share on the yahoo COE group.

Cruise night Friday night and the Hot Rod Reunion at New England Dragway on saturday... The reactions to the COE are unbelievable. He's still quite rough in many respects, but the thumbs up, "That truck is the balls!!" and "That's beautiful" comments are surely welcome. It's a new experience for me, my '57 Willys gets a few looks but not like this...

I did find that the front disk brakes drag a bit.. It's not enough to notice around town or 50 MPH secondary roads but the highway speed drive to N.E.D. and the got hot, very hot.. The truck seemed to roll just fine even then, the disks, calipers, rotors, pads and (I think) all the hardware are all new. The brakes are all stock 4 wheel disk 02 Dodge 1500, MC is 99 corvette from a 4 wheel disk system less it's ABS. Pedal travel appears to maintain a consistent feel and distance. Pedal doesn't seem hung up as putting my foot under it doesn't change anything, Ideas?

Any chance the MC push rod is to long and not fully releasing?

That was my first thought... I shortened it an 1/8 just to make sure, but no difference and had to add a spring to the brake pedal to pull it back up all the way... Then a buddy said "if there is any resistance sliding the MC onto the booster, that's a problem". I loosened those 2 bolts, slid the MC away from the booster then carefully slid it back and sure enough there was just a little resistance for a distance of about the last 2 threads. I added an aluminum spacer and it's working just fine.. Still not sure on the root cause, I suspected the 90 degree, bellcrank setup, but it also seems to have enough travel... It's solved to my satisfaction.

    thanks,!!

CoWorker trying to bust me after I had parked beside him a previous day on purpose, although still within the lines of my space... Which vehicle do you think would win this fight?? ;)

Well, the fun must end at some point, guys... With the seasons changing in New England, Buford's fun will soon come to an end. I've certainly enjoyed driving him and doing mechanical work instead of body work... Yup, it's nearly time to go back to body work and I kind of dread it. I think the only way I can go back to it is to cut it up into manageable pieces my tiny brain can comprehend. If I think about all that's left it's just too much and I'd probably stand there staring with a dumb look on my face..

I have lots still to do... door fixes, replace the swiss cheese cowl section with one Barry was kind enough to send me, 2 small floor "pans" near each rear cab corner. And then there's the grill... Maybe I'll start with the easier bits...

Missing the fat, in-door window channel on the right and the skinnier, in-door window channel on the left. Anyone got these parts? I just need the outer metal portion(s) since I have the complete window kit from Wescotts.

I'm thinking about using the stock channels and regulators but adding some sort of electric motor to the same shaft the manual handle would go onto. Anyone done this??

I have not done one that but I have seen a kit for just that. On my '46 I have PW that I use the original crank handle to operate a push rod which in turn operates a PW switch mounted in the lower door and an after market PW kit.

There I was driving down along and my wifes asks, "what is that beeping". Of course, I can barely hear it and had not noticed it over all the wind noise.... But once she mentioned it, I did and it sounded like the unbuckled seat belt chime. Not that it would matter since the seat belts are not currently wired to the Corvette harness, but we both had our belts on. I check the DIC (in my best James Earl Jones voice... "Digital Information Center"). and it doesn't say anything it hasn't said in the 500 miles we've put on him.... I tell her I'll stop shortly and check it out... In the meantime, I fumble around with the controls a bit and notice the right turn signal is on.... I'd left it on turning right a mile or two back...... I shut it off and the beeping stops... It seems a 1999 Corvette has a "hey dummy you left your turn signal on" warning... Who knew?

200+ miles yesterday, no real issues, 17 MPG.

  14. 99 isn't really late model anymore, but don't you love modern cars that know more about what you're doing than you do?
My Autocar steering column, being home made, won't have self cancelling turn signals, so I'm thinking about mounting a beeper right above my head where I might be able to hear it. LOL

Some of the early, clamped to the column turn signal setups had the cancel function through a little rubber wheel that makes contact with the steering wheel hub. Like this Spartan:

That's cool, I've never seen one of those!

  17. I've never seen one either. I do have a quick release hub, which has a nice flat under surface. Hmmm!

It's an old Jeep thing... :)

  19. I just checked Ebay, there are several in varying conditions, none guaranteed though. I have the original that came with my truck ( non-canceling, that appears to work) and I will stick with it for nostalgia reasons. I do plan on the beeper though. I had thought about an on-off-on rocker switch mounted somewhere convenient, but that might be confusing to someone else that might drive the truck.

started on the grill repairs... I'm still a rank beginner, but I think I'm learning a little as I go along.. A little curve in the BufordNewGrillPart2.jpg middle section then some more bends...

A little more progress.. I needed to put the SS grill trim on to know where the mounting surface for their supports was supposed to go... The tops of each SS trim piece has some discoloration like there is a piece missing.. Was there something that ran horiztonally across the top tips of the vertical bars??

Starting in on the rot above the slats..

When I talked to my buddy about being able to make the indent that is not the same width from one end to the other, he said "how about just replacing the bottom of the indent"... Thats what I'm trying.. I bead rolled the panel and then cut the lowest portion of the bead roll.

Can you guys see that the lower right corner of the opening isn't quite square and needs to bend down/in a bit? Suggestions on the best method to do that?
