A little more work on the cowl replacement. I have not cut the truck yet, but have the donor panel near ready so that will come soon... Yeah, I'm not TOO NERVOUS about that!!?? I'm also a little under the gun since we plan to go to car shows on 8/5 and 8/21.

I ran onto a VERY nice set of stock Dodge wheels that I've considered for Buford. They are 2005-06 models so finding them perfect hasn't been easy... I have been thinking I'd plasti-dip the big spokes gun metal grey, but after seeing them on the truck with a test fit, the jury as decided to deliberate a bit more... They are definitely BLINGY and certainly not everyone's cup of tea, but I think the big spokes look proportional and just might stay the way they are... we'll see...

Buford Cowl Sanded.jpg Thanks Eli! I have the gunmetal PlastiDip sitting on my bench.. Maybe I'll give it a shot as it will only require some taping off and supposedly if i hate the look the stuff peels right off...

I've begun work on the cowl. Barry donor panel cleaned and primed. I'll start cutting the truck this week. Should I run a temporary support of two inside the cab first?

I would definitely brace the inside of the cab , especially if the doors fit good now . Your truck looks good and square and you may open up a can of worms otherwise. Good luck and keep up the great work your doing . Been water skiing a lot this summer ? I sure miss the water since we moved to the desert. Blue

I will definitely brace it then!
We get in a fair amount of waterskiing. We shoot for 2 weeknights and parts of 1 or both w/e days, but don't always make it with other conflicts. And I need to get some garage time in too! Hanging out on the river has it's benefits also. I stopped by a guys place by boat yesterday that I had met once before. He had mentioned working on a project car.. He gave me the tour.. The car is a 1955 Ford 2 door wagon. 400CI Ford, 4 speed, 3.56 Ford 9", white paint that's sort of flattish... Awesome... I told him he was only missing one accessory..... The SURFBOARD!!!!!!

A woman in a minivan backed into the corner of Buford's flatbed. Guess who won that fight.

lots and lots of swiss cheese... it's along the belt line and surrounds the lower portions of the ws opening.

Before cutting for the replacement cowl, I decided I better figure out why only the outer windshield "locking arms" were truly locking. The ones toward the center would not "snap in" all the way. I pulled the driver's frame and gl*** and loosened everything up. A little ****ing around and checking some measurements showed that the gl***, frame and seal should fit in the opening just fine. It sits in the opening just fine when placing it there w/o hinges or locking hardware. It appeared the gl***, frame and seal was offset to the center of the truck and the seal was holding the unit away from the truck and not allowing the inner locking arm to work correctly. Upon closer inspection, I think the root cause is my makeshift bushings... If I pull that white guy, I think the orientation will be correct.

WS and cowl area braced. Old cowl panel cut out, new one in for first test fit. Still need to repair one area of the seam on the lower left then flange the new panel at the A pillars and make the thing fit, but it's looking FAR FAR better now without all that Swiss cheese... Thanks Derrick and Barry for the great panel! buford_cardboard_Windshield.jpg buford_cowl_Braced.jpg Buford_Cowl_cut_off.jpg buford_first_test_fit_cowl.jpg

Got the A pillars flanged and fitting pretty well. My cardboard windshield templates came in handy! Still need to tweak the front area a bit to get the beltline to line up correctly from the upper, donor panel to the lower original piece.

The odds of being ready for Friday night's Cruise night are very slim.. Instead, I'll fix her Mustang ignition issue and we'll take that. Her co-worker plans to be there that we bought the car from and he hasn't seen it since we bought it. It's had some changes..

The Mustang went to the cruise night. The former owner seemed very happy to see it with all the changes and upgrades that have happened in the past 2 years. That was cool.

I learned that I cannot weld lead filler as it fell on my shoes when I hit the panel with some of the lead left on it with the MIG. I have a whole 2 weeks before the Barrington Antique Truck Show.... No sweat, right? Oh wait, the new name is... uhh.... Granite State Antique Truck Show???

I felt a twinge of regret as I welded up the 4 holes in the roof that were used for the Coca Cola sign back in 1941.

Pity you could not find a sign to put back.

Wouldn't really go with the look I'm after, but if someone was doing a 5th wheel setup, what could be cooler than an original looking Coca Cola sign for an air diverter?

I was sort of thinking if you had the sign you could add your own wording. Now that would be cool.
