I should probably get you a new side shot... I drove him yesterday and I'm happy to report that it's still a blast! Seems to like running 10 degrees cooler too.

grind, weld and grind some more... The donated 1941 running board "end caps" are now bolted to the new running boards. Still waiting to get my hands on my buddy's Huck gun for the supports. Maybe next weekend... I didn't frame or brace the 4" donated sections since they really weren't framed in stock form and the new running boards are framed with 1" square tube the entire length... I wonder if I should gusset the little guys???

Pulled up to a light the other day with a cop sitting caddy corner to us... I said to my buddy. "i didn't bother to put the front plate on, I wonder if he'll care". He gives us the peace sign (or Victory depending upon your age) as we drive by..... "I guess not".

Wow, thanks! Makes me think I should consider the scheme above except with white extended down the doors and sleeper.

  7. Eli, where you finding all that snow in Hawaii?
This is just my unsolicited opinion, but I like the blue bottom on the door. I think the white on the newest version makes the door look out of proportion. (too tall)

That's the nice thing about Photoshop, it helps the owners decide what works for them without painting the whole thing.
As for the snow, my brother emails it from Colorado.:D

The following is my unsolicited and uninformed opinion

I'm not a fan of bright white paint on large panels of the 1930's-40's cars with "roundy" bodies. I think it is because there is a lack of the sharp body lines that create all the shadows that newer cars have. I think that it makes the body panels appear larger and very plain. I wonder if using an off white like "Vanilla Shake" or maybe a second shade of grey would look better? Some bold graphics over the white would also look good.

Maybe a fake company name like "Capone Concrete Co. - Chicago's Finest Shoes" ?

I appreciate your unsolicited opinion. The other issue with white in these areas that just dawned on me is that the wrecker bed would be completely white... BTW: I had thought of a logo on the door too. Great minds....

  12. There is a reason why women wear a little black dress when they're feeling sporty. I want to know who the dumas was that thought a bride should have a long white dress. A few pounds on the rolly polly side and they look like the Queen Mary.
I've often thought about one of these for a door logo,

We were thinking something more along the lines of "Last Chance Garage" (Anyone remember that?") or "No one else is nutty enough to take on this project!".

New running boards finally done and installed and off to the first cruise night of 2019. (I had to relearn how to get into the truck).

I needed an inch gap between the running board and the front fender to allow the fender to tilt up. I figure some sort of rubber, right angle piece attached to the fender will do the trick... Any ideas on a piece like that?

Maybe the rubber that attaches to the bottom of an Overhead Garage?

BTW: I used plasti-dip on the running boards since I have no idea what I will do with them yet. I'll report back in how the stuff stands up to us walking on it. Supposedly, it peels right off... we'll see...

You could also paint them and add the stone chip resistent finish as I did with mine. I also added rubber strips to stand on to protect the running boards.

  20. http://www.restorationspecialties.com/index.html might have something that will work for you, but their online catalog doesn't show any dimensions.
Going back to fake company names. ****ens Cider Company is another tongue in cheek name. (did you have your ****ens Cider this morning?)

Is that stone chip resistance just something that is added to the paint?

It is like a body deadner. You would need to ask in a paint shop. I know my running boards are in color but have a wrinkle finish and added to the paint before applied. I also added this rubber strip to protect the running boards and it has worked well.
EDIT: You can just see the rubber in the last photo I posted.

OH! The lower edge that points at the ground... That's a really good idea. I had thought about round steel stock behind that curve to decrease damage if they get dragged over something, but your solution is far less intrusive and way less weight. (my running boards are already pretty heavy).

If you go back to the post with my door signage and the second photo and look close you will see I used the strip on top of the running boards so you stand on them.

I first painted the running boards and steps then had Rhino lining sprayed on them. They are holding up very well so far, 2 1/2 years. The fellow who did the paint work did a very good of taping them up and they lining company was careful in the application. So far so good. IMG_0479.jpg IMG_0478.jpg

I really like that Rhino Lining look. Very cl***y and good protection for the stepping areas

...it does!.... I may have to bite the bullet and do something. it looks like the Plasti-dip is already beginning to chip off just from me getting in an out of the sleeper working on a back seat.

Built a piece to match the former seat bases that will be the "valance" between the running boards and sleeper.

And.... here's a pic of the future of our hobby that my buddy was lucky enough to catch!!!!

Valance under cab built, installed and hinged for access to the cab bolts. They work quite well... Recent car show where I was lucky enough to park beside a fresh 1941 Dodge COE!
