Boris_Outside_Dorrs_aligned_Front2.jpg Boris_Outside_Dorrs_aligned_Front.jpg I aligned the fender to the door then ran a sting along the top of the door edge out the the fender. The most forward point in the fender is 1-2" lower than perfectly straight. I rolled it outside to eyeball the alignment. Even with the little droop, I think it still looks good. I also think the little droop matches the windshield slant a little better...

Brought it inside, tested the steering and could close up the gaps from what I had cut out first...

One more thing... "The front of this thing looks a little low Milner"...

Chopped both fenders, hoping it was enough... Drove it outside for a looksee and found more cutting will be needed.... I guess there is no book for this... ***WWAHHHHH

    10. Fender details.jpg From your progress I'm guessing your working along these lines?

Yup... nice job priming that fender and filling in the areas yet to be completed! Thanks.. I am struggling with cutting the front wheelwell a bit more. I wonder when it will look goofy cuz it's just cut to close to the body line above it. I think I could get away with raising the front end of the fender an inch or two but I would need to rework the area along the door gap if I did that. That gap is pretty much correct right now.

I have a line on a possible better pair of fenders. I will probably just keep chopping and see what I end up with using the existing ****py ones...

Once again, thanks for the great rendering, Eli.

I think I've created my first major fawk up... I so carefully chopped the left fender to where the car can seemingly steer leaving as much fender as I could.... Then I flipped my cardboard pattern over to do the right fender. I knew the considerable rot on the left fender made it droop a bit. Unfortunately, I think that droop was far more than I thought and resulted in a pretty lame cut on the right. It doesn't fit the tire very well at all... pics of my error forthcoming.. The good news is that I have a line on a pair of fenders in much better shape anyway so I won't cry about this...

  8. Secrets! To do good work, one must keep lots of secrets! I don't know how many times I've flipped a pattern and made a something b*** akwards.
I know of good men that have given up and walked away from less complicated projects than you are working on, so you're doing OK.

I believe the green flame job car is the same one that's parked in front of me with orange flames when I picked up the fenders. It's named the Cro-Magnum. I talked to the builder. It took him 6 months full time 5 days a week. The Dodge Magnum body pretty much stayed in place and the fins and other bits were added on. However, the grille and tailgate sections were heavily modified to take on those Caddy pieces and all very nice metal work.

I sent him the pic... He said that he actually did lower it when he first built it but that it drove like **** so he changed it back. It's AWD so it sits 1" higher than it's 2wd brethren.

Great day yesterday... Drove to a Cars and Coffee about 70 miles away at something called the Ice House Museum in New London, NH. What a venue.. The Museum has some very nice Fords, hit-and-miss engines as well as antique tools. They also had a collection of peddle cars and let the kids ride them. Very cool. There were probably 40-50 cars there about 50/50 modern versus antiques. Buford was his typical attention ***** self and wasn't even chastised for no longer wearing his flathead V8 by a large flathead v8 crowd.

We left the museum about 11:30 and wandered around Lake Sunapee stopping at various boat ramps around the lake. We have a thing for boat ramp activity. (yeah our tastes (and minds) are simple)...

All in all probably drove 300 miles or so... A very enjoyable day..

Truck looks great but man, I still think those wheels are like Bruce Lee's sister, Ug-Lee.

I think I know her... ***WAHHH!!! Obviously, you're not staring at my truck enough... Keep looking at it, the Dodge wheels will grow on you. Seriously, I've looked at what's available for aftermarket Dodge Ram wheels and if you think those stockers are ugh-Lee they are Miss Universe compared to all the boy racer and Bro-Truck rims on TireRack.

I just can't stomach the prices on custom wheels... They'd have to really blow my skirt up... Nothing has yet. I'd like something like a Torque Thrust II. How do you feel about those?

New fenders cut,,,, Really happy with the forward upper contour now. Less happy about the rear, upper shape... May just live with it since adding a small piece to soften that curve will make flaring it in that area a challenge...

Teaser pics with grille and headlight trim on for effect...

decided to make sure the doors open before deciding on final fender placement and cutting. Good thing I did... I learned that modern doors ala 1998 corvette turn their leading edge IN but 50s vintage do not. The 59 Coronet doors have the hinge point much closer to the leading edge of the door than the 1998. I scratched several body parts wondering what I might do to solve this... I took a hammer to the 90 degree flange on the trailing edge of the fender and changed that 90 to about a 45 and it worked! The door opens now swinging it's leading edge into the inner fender area.

As an added bonus, the latest alignment might allow the hood install without cutting a hole...

The Torque Thrusts were always my favorites, not quite sure what the Torque Thrust II is, but sounds like a Photoshop Moment if I can see them. :D

Local cruise night... Buford starts at 2.51. I had nothing to do with this guy's video. Pretty cool that he set it to big band music as that was my dad's favorite... Hmmmm... sorry guys, looks like you need to click on the "Video on Facebook" link to make it work...
