History 1941 WILLYS Need to identify a decal

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 1933_willys_77, May 16, 2015.

  1. Can anyone identify the decal on the side window above the Mondello decal to the left of the "C". Looks kinda like a Racer Brown Cams but that's not it. Thanks 1941 WILLYS AV #7.jpg

  2. you need to make a close up shot...not whole side of car

  5. Choffman41,
No not 100 percent sure, thanks for blowing up the pic. It's off the internet as that shot was taken at the 1969 Nationals at Indy. If I had a better pic I'd prob be able to make it out myself. Even with the blurry blow up it seems to be different than the Racer Brown There's more black showing and the shape seems different than a cam lobe and it doesn't look to me like there's 3 lobes only two. Plus we know for sure they were running Sig Erson Cams from at least late '67 thru 1970. Unfortunately the one person who could have told me for sure passed last month.

  6. One of the many Iskenderian Racing Cams would be my guess.

Similar to the one in the upper left.

My guess its not a cam company decal, especially with a "sig erson cams" logo painted on the side of the hood. Good luck with your search.

I thought it might be Engle cams but the Sig Erson put me off too.

My first thought was Speed Specialties "SS" Cams. Girl riding on a camshaft. But, doesn't make sense with the Erson on the hood. And, haven't seen any round ones.

Sure looks like the RB decal, clocked a little CCW in the original photo. I wouldn't be too put off by the Erson on the hood. A lot of things were not as they seemed in those days.:D

    yeah, I think yer correct...:p

  17. Appreciate all the input. I'm still not convinced it's a Racer Brown but won't completely rule it out and will keep on with the search for any info I can. As far as fading I'm thinking not as that decal was put on prior to the Indy Nats and it was removed before the following Winternationals so it wasn't on that long. If anyone sees or finds any other photos with the TRIAD sponsor on the doors that haven't been posted here on the HAMB I'd love to see them. Again THANKS for all the input.

probably not racer brown, it says sig erson cams on the hood,
I see at least two other decals on the window that match sign painted brands on the car; mondelo, champion..

  19. Could it be a local speed shop or track decal?

I looked the internet over as well trying to find another picture of this car. I know we stuck any sticker we could find on our windows and the car very well could be running a Chrysler wedge or hemi[ only a guess]. If so, then a Racer Brown sticker could be put on as a temporary advertisement, since they were a big Mopar supporting co. BUT why I said earlier what I did, It would be the only crookedly applied sticker on this Willys. It looks as though the crew took great pains applying the rest of them, although I have to agree it could be an RBC decal.

  21. Just out of curiosity...why is it important to know?

  22. Car ran a Hilborn Stack injected SBC. There's a pic in the 37-41 WILLYS pic thread with the front end tilted forward at the 1969 Springnationals when the car had Antelope Valley Speed Center painted on the doors . Thanks

  23. Car is being put back to the way it is in that photo from the 69 Indy Nationals and I'm trying to recreate that window

  24. Not sure, that's why I was hoping someone in HAMB land might recognize it.

  25. I bought an original Racer Brown decal off the bay today, when it gets here I'll be able to compare it size wise to the others since I already have those, still think it's something else. Anyone ever see a Cam-A-Go decal?

Maybe through process of elimination we could determine what it could be.

Which ones are on the car and which ones do you know for sure?

Maybe it's spark plugs, oil, piston rings, etc...

  28. I'll agree, I don't think it's Racer Brown either. But sometimes it was just about contingency money, sometimes guys ran 'mixed' parts (cam from one manufacturer, lifters from another, etc) so 'logic' may not enter into it...

  29. This is the only image I found for Hays Stinger, not the right image shape but maybe they had more than one design. Keep the suggestions coming. 1!1.jpg

Different name on the door, but same car...just changed hands in Minnesota...only went about 20 miles from where it was for 30 years. Lots of history, and in good hands.
