Anyone ever chop a 42 chev pu? No extra top to extend roof, so have to lay the windshield back. How much can I lower the lid by just laying the pillars back? Thinking of 3 or 4". Possible? Any extra tops out there for pieces? Thanks for you help. Will try to find pics of others on the HAMB.
Check out my build thread on my International KB, it shows what I had to do with no roof stretch and leaned back pillars. If you have questions ask them here or PM me or call my number in my sig file below. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/international-kb-7-chop.989019/
Look through my thread for info on 4 inch chop with a filler piece http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/41-truck-progress-update.434746/
I am doing one right now that I chopped 2 inches and extended 6 inches through the doors. added filler pieces from a rusty junk truck cab. 2 inches seems to be the right amount of chop for these trucks, any more it starts to look like a big bald head on top. imo. There are rusty trucks out there you just need to find them. Any one of them from 1939 to early 47 work 1/2 ton through 2 1/2 ton. If you need some roof pieces I may have some I have a few of these trucks and parts floating around. I cut mine below the rear window so after the chop the windshield and side windows all line up nice with the back window. The posts in the front are easy to do if you cut the tin first and get it out of the way you can pull the screws (or drill) then separate the posts halves chop the top half and it should slide back down into the lower half. Then just weld the tin back together minus the 2 inches.
Hey guys- thanks for all the help. Think I will do 3 or 4" off at posts w/o laying the windshield back. Did a 30-A (piece of cake) and a 36 ford 2 door (much more difficult) and they both turned out great but years ago. Will be looking for a center sec of a roof if anyone has or knows of a donor. Thanks again-great posts.
