Yeah thats what I said,,but thats also what the ***le says. How common or rare are 1945 cars ? I know 1942's get some attention is it the same for 1945 or are thy just lumped in with the 46's?
I think RacingOneRob got it. But, the DATE on your ***le is official and what the ***ling people meant to put there. So, officially, it really is a '45 Lincoln. I do believe that after the war ended in Europe, the fed. govt. started gradually easing up on car companies which, then, were able to start rushing out at least a few '42 models as '45s to a new-car-HUNGRY America. And these shenanegans weren't just because of WWII. For '49, Henry Kaiser ordered Joe W. Frazer to build 200,000 Kaisers at Willow run. Frazer pleaded that the design had run its course and it was time to put capital into ALL-NEW designs for 1951. Result? Tons of UNsold '49 Kaisers sitting around. Henry's course of action? Call them 1950 models, with a few cosmetic differences. I guess my thought is that the system is/was not always as as perfect -- or official -- as we may have always been told!
Look at model number in serial...probably 56H or such. Lincoln equivalent of Ford 59A...the 5 means 1945, the next number denotes the engine series prefix. Ford production started up in 1945 but only a few were produced until into '46, because of all of the problems of conversion and shortages after the war. I believe these were all 1946 models in Ford's eyes, and all the 46's carried the "5" designation for the whole model year. I would ***ume the 5 came in only because Ford was excessively optimistic about getting back into production... Some trucks were legit 1945 models and made a bit earlier because there were limited production runs to meet critical civilian war production needs, and of course MANY Ford trucks were built throughout the in non-tactical civilian forms for non-frontline military applications. So...I betcha ***le is a 56H 1946 model, and the car was ***led as 45 because it was sold and ***led late in '45. What is serial prefix?? Also...you will find dates close to production date stamped on instrument cases and window gl***.
k will have to clean her up and look,,also how can I tell if its the better NV motor will that be stamped on teh bell ?
