Hot Rods 1946 Chevrolet 3/4 ton WHAT POWER STEERING BOX TO USE?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by studiocitycowboy, May 21, 2009.

  1. We are trying to assemble a power steering system for a stock beam axle 3/4 ton Chevrolet 1946 pickup. We would appreciate your input with emphasis on a power box if possible vs. power rack. Thanks for your comments/suggestions ahead of time.

I'd copy the approach used on '47 to '54 Chevy trucks, using a 70's-80's pickup box ahead of the axle. You might be able to buy the kit from someone like Classic Performance and adapt the parts to the earlier truck.

79-85 Toyota 4x4 Pickup Power Steeing Boxes have been popular upgrades on F-100's, but there's no reason it couldn't work on your Chevy. The boxes are getting hard to find since the rock crawler guys thrash them on the trails, the Landcruiser guys use them for PS conversions, and the F-100 and hot rod guys have found that they were once cheap & easily obtainable.
