Well sorry for the lack of updates.. I got really busy with my band going on tour and other miscellaneous things, but now I finally am getting somewhere with the car.

I replaced the clutch with a stock factory style clutch and it seems to work but theres a bad "whirring" sound while accelerating from 1st to 4th. Throwout bearing??

The reason the car was running rough was because there was a tear in the brake booster, so when I would press on the brake a massive vaccum leak would occur, making the car want to die. I have all that replaced now... now just to address the horrible transmission noise.

ANYWAYS, to hold you guys over.. heres some pictures of the 46 in a photoshoot :D

whenever you replace the clutch, always replace the throwout bearing and pilot bushing or bearing (depends on what type the car has, but stock 46 will have a bushing) and on the throwout bearing there is a "stripe" that should have grease. Grease should also be put on the pivot ball and transmission shaft (just a light coating). And always check the flywheel for warpness and have it turn or buy a new one if necessary.
And make sure you use the right throwout bearing for the replaced clutch. If the fingers are flat, use the long throwout bearing. If the fingers are raised, use the short throwout bearing. If you have the correct bearing to match the clutch, the fork will have play for adjustment. If the fork is tight on the clutch, you have the wrong throwout bearing.

    She looks great.

If you need parts for that trans, it was from a 92 IROC. It's a World Class T5.

The chop was about 2.5 inches at the posts.

It doesnt have stock suspension, it has a mustang II (out of a mustang II) and a four link type suspension in the rear. No airbags though.

    Aaron,

I took 2 inch tape on the "a" pillars so it is exactly 2 inches but it is 1 1/2 vertical in the front. Also that means that the roof would move exactly 1 1/4 inches forward to meet up.

So I had some figgerin' to do. The rear is 2 1/4 vertical drop

Alrighty then. Time for some updates.

I got both Appletons mounted, got some "real man's" tires and reprimed it.

I took the '46 to Kool Cat Kustoms in San Jose CA.
Anybody in the area should definately check it out if you need any work done..
    Johnny does great work.

    Anyways.....

Since this car will be driven daily, cross country, rain or shine... whatever..
I wanted to go with a simple affordable bulletproof setup.

I went with a TCI t350 and a '71 Camaro rear end with 2.73 gears... much smoother than the old rear end with a locker in it. I drive a lot in the bay area, so the automatic will be nice with the hills and whatnot..

Picked up the rear end in Johnny's 39 Chevy he just finished...

Heres the stuff I took out... I have a nice aluminum bellhousing with a BRAND NEW clutch along with the t-5 that might need to be rebuilt if anybody wants it for a small sum.

Johnny also installed a 4 link rear suspension (with coils, no bags!) and reinforced the c-notch. I will post pictures of that later.

Sorry I dont have many pictures to post, I only have my phone and most of the pictures turned out too dark.

Turbo 350 with 2.73 rear end should be good out on the road but since you are starting from scratch did you ever consider an overdrive like a 2004R or a 700R4?

That might have been nice... but its too late now!

The current set up cruises at about 2000 rpm getting a little over 20 mpg so it works for me.

    Fantastic Aaron!

I am so glad you're cleaning up the car. God knows it needed it and deserved to be taken care of better than it was...

Don't worry, I won't be sore if you make fun of the crappy fab work underneath, that was done in a huge hurry and in the dark over 7 years of daily driving..... :)
