  1. The Olds dash/wheel is one of my favourites. Like what you're doing with it since you picked it up...very kool.

When it comes to body,I`d look for simplicity but for upholstery, steering wheel and dash luxory is the way to go.My 2 cents but trust me and you will thank me later... :D You`re doing great job, please keep them updates coming!

I agree man. I want the inside to be super luxurious. With a simple exterior. Clean and classic.

I'm in love with what you did with your dash, I've been contemplating a Stewart Warner Hollywood custom dash in mine...

This is a custom dash in a 47 Chevy done in the 50s that I fell in love with. I would do mine with less of a "hood" for an early 50s look.

My Olds has the same body from the firewall back as your Chevy, so I would think the dash would bolt right in. They are not welded in. However, the dash would have to come from one of the smaller series Oldsmobiles.

The Olds has a great looking dash (and steering wheel) and would look pretty as a swap, although I don't dislike what you have now, either.

Plenty of chrome and style in the original dash,a gloss maroon, black or any dark color would really bring out the bling.I`d play with the steering wheel options although I like the original too.And there is always http://www.pearlcraft.com.au/

I vote for the Indian dash because it looks less busy and sportier and yet it looks "rich". The Olds dash looks over done.

Glad I found your build on here Aaron. Keep the Chevy dash. You have done so much hard work on it so far. If you want to dress it up paint it when you paint the outside. Keep up the hard work!

Whatever you do will be what's right.

I always wanted to do the 41 speedo and clock trick to that car.....thanks for doing it with the parts I collected for it.

Now it needs something different, elegant and clean. Like moving the speedo and clock closer together and flanking a custom waterfall from the top to the bottom in the center. Not too wide..... hide the gauges and smooth the dash on both sides..

That's exactly what I want Brant, elegant and clean.

I'm going to be painting the dash and garnish moldings high gloss Black instead of the brown.

I have a few ideas to tweak the stock dash...

And I like this green too...

    What do you guys think??

  14. The first grey blue and the last light green look like a factory colors, including the black the rest look custom. The factory look is more subtle, does not say look at me. If asked to pick I would say the bright darker green or maroon are the most exciting and I have to lean towards the green.

All those colors are AD truck Colors but of those colors Shown, I like the classic black the best but there's tons of black cars. The first blue is nice but it doesn't look "Rich" or "Elegant". Green is nice, as a matter of fact, I am painting my AD British Racing Green Lacquer but I am not too keen of the look of green on your car. And Maroon is pretty much common like Black, yet many customs back in the late 40s, early 50s were paint Maroon.
Bottom line, I chose the dark blue. It's classic, dark, not as common as Black or Maroon. Fit's the styling of the car (custom) and the period you are after, plus it looks elegant.
    That's my 2 pesos.

    Thanks for the opinions.

I like the green, but my 51 Pontiac was green, so I might want to change it up.

It's nice but to me, it doesn't have that "Rich" look like the other dark blue has (don't have a cow, Washington Blue Lovers) which is why I like the W.B. on a old style Hot Rod rather than a early custom. By the way, I know what it's like to try and figure out the color you want. I nearly drove myself nuts trying to decide which color to paint my truck. A couple of times I even bought the paint but it didn't look like what I thought it would it would look like. I was pulling my hair out. Finally, I decided that the green would be best for my truck.
    Good Luck.

Haha, I know what you mean. Picking a color for this thing is going to be a real challenge.

I guess I need to finish the bodywork first though.. :( :D

That's the best thing to do right now and just keep looking at the colors till you decide your choice. One thing I did was look at every photo I could find of AD trucks and I would debate myself as to what I liked or didn't like about that particular color. By the way, have you considered Spring Time Yellow?? It's period correct color for the early 50s.

So Jeff, you're painting your Merc maroon? :D

I'm thinking of starting out with a satin color and cruising it like that for a while, then getting it professionally blocked and finished in a nice shiny coat after I finish the chrome, interior, drivetrain, etc.

  27. Maroon ? not for my car.I like the color, just too many out there.Besides...my whip is already painted,if anything it will get re shot or changed to white basecoat.
