Projects 1946 Chevy: In Early California Custom Styling

Discussion in 'Traditional Customs' started by 1951Streamliner, Sep 21, 2012.

  1. i take it that jaws did the chop? great job dude. way to show some restraint. everything gets so overdone anymore that the traditional part of traditional kustoms seems to get overlooked.

Wow, this car really is a bomb! Pun intended :) The chop is so right, really one of the best proportionate ones ive ever seen. Plus, you love it, and this makes it even better. I also really like the og ''El Lay'' Kustom plaque, will be a nice detail if you mount it up fnt as you said. Now, dont get me wrong, i kno exactley what you wanna do with this car, but i cant help but think that a vintage Aircraft set up would be spot on in it. Nothin crazy, even hooked to the starter battery could do. Slow screamin Pescos on a bad ass period perfect kustom. Im having an heart attak just picturing it in my mind :D Hope you see my point and dont take it the wrong way. 3 thumbs up dude.

Yes I built the car. Straight from the farmer to how it is now.

Now Aaron is gonna make it what it should be. I have all the faith in the world in this young mans abilities to make it into the vision he has.

Watch out, this kid is gonna be one of the "greats"!:D

 This. pretty compact and being the same age as your car makes it period possible, althou it seems the 1st set up on a car seems was done around 56.
The Bill Hines article is full of wrong meaningless info/names, but shows real set ups from the time.

Great car Aaron.. you did well buying this one.
I loved it when JAWS chopped it just the right amount.

And with your plans for it to make it look like it could have rolled out of the 1940's... perfect!

I'm not sure about the bubble skirts though. I kind of like the once you have on the car now. Perhaps when the time is right for paint you can paint both sets and see which look better on the finished car with the new stance.

    Thanks for the reply Rik,

I mean the 40s teardrop skirts that have a bit more shape and have the proper brackets, the ones on the car now just bolt to the fender.

    These:

I agree. Ill see what I can do with these ones. Thanks for the help.

I put on the correct crank knobs today..

Figured out what was wrong with the other starter..

If anybody has any rattly dash pieces or whatnot, this stuff works great to get rid of the rattles. Just stick it behind the pice and bolt it back on..

I also drew this quick picture on the table tonight when I took my girl out to dinner, it shows how excited I am about the Chevy.

Tomorrow the new steering column and wheel will go in.. stay tuned!

  12. This is coming along great.I dig the picture you did at dinner.Killer car !

    Everything looks fantastic Aaron.

    NO TICKETS!!!!

Look at the starter drive, that Chinese switch stuck it in start while the engine was running.

How does it sound when it starts? Doe's it sound like the gears are meshing right?

I really love where you are taking this car! Ya found a great new owner Jaws!

  17. Updates are looking good man !!

Not to hijack - I too struggled with the decision of leaving in the 216 or dropping in my 283. I even tried to find a decent built 292 to keep is 6 cyl powered and dress it up like an early engine, add duals and Fentons etc, but I could'nt find a decent 292 down here so decided to go V8. There's nothing wrong with the V8 gang as I wanted to DRIVE mine everywhere

Lowsquire @ Rancho Deluxe and I dropped my fresh early 283 in back in Jan this year. Left the stock clutch pedal and set up the stock column shift to shift the TH350.

Rams horns, dual 2" S/S exhaust, pencil tips as well. In the rear I added a rebuilt 57 Chevy rear end with 3.5s.

Drivee fantastic and drives EVERYWHERE, plenty of power in reserve and the although the 216 was kool, it was wayyy underpowered and got old FAST with the torque tube and 4.11s around town AND on the open road.

    No regrets here ....

    Rat

Super chop missed it in the first pics. Car is spot on to my memories of the
50's. Might rethink the front wheel covers when the car is painted. Dark color?
The detail in the caps will draw your eye from the flow of the nose. Try a cheap
full moon wheel cover to see the effect. If you like it better smooth, there is
lots of options. Bitchen car, thanks for all the pics.

Behind those window cranks and door handles are supposed to be escutcheons...do you have those...??? My bro has a '47 Chevy parts box and he may have some if you are interested...they are also being re-popped these days...

The Buick wheel looks good, getting rid of that column is good...hate those with the key in them...

    Keep up the good work...
