Hi guys, I have a 283 in my 46, with a stock radiator that was re-cored before I bought the car. The car runs cool, no problems, but it looks like the original radiator cap. Its the non-pressure cap that only has the gasket and the gasket is falling apart, needs to be replaced. Some people say to run a 4lb cap. Is the 4lb cap better for the system? Thanks, Mike.

sure that it is a stock radiator original radiator? - what is the LB rating of cap that you have now? - what is the operating temperature now? - 7LB cap is a common one to use for older radiators - post pics of motor & engine bay -

Stock radiator, re-cored. Cap is an old cap, gasket only, no spring, no pressure ratings on it. thanks.

  4. i'd go no higher than 4 lbs with a stock radiator...it may have a new core, but still has the old top & bottom tanks
