Im doing the sbc in my 1946 ford. I would rather run a mechanical fp instead of an electric fp, But the frame that supports the leaf spring is in the way. How have others handled this? is there a fp I could convert right side up like a six cyl pump? If i notch the frame would it interfere with the ride height of the spring?

I'd bite the bullet and run an electric pump. my car is clipped so I never had that problem.

They make a kit to notch the cross member and you can then run the original pump.
The kit needs to be welded in to the cross member.
You could make your own out of some cut down 4" angle iron, nothing to it.
    Hope this helps

Old school way was to cut out part of the crossmember in one piece; then flip it over and weld it back in. I found a Holley pump with a short lower section that will clear on my 40 by about 3/16 in. I'm using CE engine mounts. I may still do the "flip" thing.
