Hot Rods 1946 Ford side shift trans question

Hello all, would a 42 to 48 ford car 3 speed side shift with the 6 spline rear main tailshaft be converted to the 42 to 48 truck 3 speed side shift with that rear main tailshaft with (not sure how many splines but quite a bit more) by changing those 2 shafts? Hope my wording is good enough to get my point across.

Yes, the internals are the same except for the tail shaft.
