I work in my shop through the mid day heat. Door up, and a couple of fans running. They don't lower the temp, but just create a breeze that blows across the sweat. This is the thermometer in my shop, yesterday I think.
That sounds about right for us too temp wise. With the boy helping we work till he’s had enough which was from about 7am till about 2ish. There’s always next Saturday for us! Stay cool next week it’s going to be a scorcher!
I bought it off of a guy from here. I believe he said it was from speedway. It fit very nicely in the frame. I have a original one that a guy has modified if you are close I would get rid of.
Today was a great day! While I was gone this week for work my dad did some finish up wiring and some clean up of the wiring under the dash. Also one of the window regulators went out. My dad had a extra in his stash and swapped them out for me. then this morning we finished the install on the electric fan. After that we took off down the road. I’ve put a 1-2 miles on it early but nothing at speed or distance. This morning we stretched it out and have a drive line hum to track down. You can hear it and slightly feel it when your over 35 mph and let off the gas and coast is the only time it does it. You can feel it in the floor behind the transmission. Any kind of acceleration it goes away. Also noticed the pinion seal is a little wet so we pull the driveshaft back out and check over it and pull the yoke and put in another seal. Check everything over and reinstall. What ever it is has to be minor. It drives great and straight down the road!
After the day cooled down some and going and picking up the boy a new to him toy. (Every 4 year old needs a 4 wheeler right?) we came home and washed Dave and took it for evening spin. Then some photos before we put it in the garage for the night.
@EV34 , I may have missed it in yout posts, did you do anything to pull your front wheels inward? I love how the are tucked in. And the rears fit perfect! Great pictures!
I don’t think I posted about it. I bought the axle and wishbones from a gentleman out of Oklahoma that had taken it out of his sedan delivery. He told me it was a magnum axle from way back in the day. I didn’t realize until we put it together that it tucked as hard as it did. Which I love the look of. So I’m not sure if it’s a earlier like 40 ford axle that is narrower or if it’s something that magnum did back in the day to pull them in. Here’s a few pictures of the axle and the car it came from.
@Kelly Burns the set up in the photos above was done early. It had the early ford spindles adapted to the AMC spindles and disc brakes. I did away with that setup and went with original spindles and a speedway 5x5.5 disc brake set up
@EV34 thanks for posting those pictures, that delivery is killer! I've spoken to Mark Leon on FB, his dad started Magnum, I believe? He may be to tell? Your sedan sits exactly the way it should and has the "look". I think that was a good move. You need to come to Frog Follies!
has felt good. Hoping over the next week or two to have all the small stuff button up and really get after it!
I’ve seen him on Facebook too. I hadn’t thought to ask him that may be a good idea. and thanks for the compliments on the stance. I had a good idea on it and talking with a lot of guys most told me I couldn’t get here with the parts I wanted to use. It came out perfect in my eyes. I would love to go to frog follies. Will have to put it on the list some day!
Didn’t do much with the car last weekend. My work schedule put me on the road the last weeks so I spent much of the time with my family. I did take the oldest daughter for a ride and then when we got back my wife wanted to go and ended up driving most of the short trip we went on. I have not drove it much up to this point with the pinion seal leaking a tiny bit and having a slight harmonic sound coasting at speed. My dad called me the first of the week and told me he was going to come and get the 46 and change the seal out and button up the rest of the wiring that he had left. Plus it has enough miles on it now to do some shake down checking to make sure everything is riding well with one another. so this week while I was gone my dad helped me out and finished up the wiring and getting it all taped up and hid. Took the drive shaft out and regressed everything there along with pulling th yoke back out and putting in another new seal and re checked the back lash on the rear end. He called me while I was on my way home from work tonight and told me that this go around sealed up the rear and the harmonic sound is gone. Not sure exactly what it was coming from but a variation of what he took apart and re greased and put back together seemed to do the trick. I’m thankful he took the time this week to do all the rest of the little things it had left to do and fix. Saved me a weekend and now we can put some serious miles on it this weekend. Which is exactly what we plan to do. Dad also sent me this photo that I thought I would share from this evening. Tomorrow after work I will stop by and pick the car up and get ready to drive the wheels off of it thanks for following along to this point. Still more to come but that may be when it cools off some and makes working on it a little more enjoyable
This was a good lunch break read! Thanks for sharing. I will also attest to the job Ron does on exhaust work, it is top notch and priced right. I giggled at your comment about always tuning on that flathead, I get that lol. Hope to see the car soon
Thanks Ben. It’s been a fun journey. I’m hoping to go to the marshfield cruise next Saturday. glad you enjoyed the flathead comment and know what I mean. Especially whe. You drive them like we do
