I was able to buy myself a new daily driver thisweek. It's a '46 Chevy pickup that's been placed over on a '94 S10 frame, retaining the 2.2/ 5-speed combo. I don't know how traditional it'll be looked at, but reliability and gas milage, along with the old styling, were enough to win me over. It'll give the '52 company, anywayNow if the Conway, Ar H.A.M.B.E.R.s will fill me in on their monthly breakfast meets, I might be able to hold my head up and join them!
werent the later s10 engines a 4.3 v6 ? i had an 86 that was a 2.3 with a 5 speed but thought the cubes were increased on the later years
does it have enough power to motor around with respect? lets see some more pic's of your truck like under the hood. seems like economy/vintage might be the next "traditional" if gas keeps going towards $$$$ a gal.
Drive the 2.2 until it pukes then stab a 4.3. in it. Same good mileage, much better power. (did I actually just type that? The sky, my friends, is officially falling.) Now I'm gonna go outside and knock a bullhorn off an Ice cream truck that has been parked in front of the shop for 30 minutes. "Pop goes the weasel" for that amount of time will drive a man insane.
EXACTLY!! having a daily that's reliable, cheap to maintain, cheap to feed AND has a vintage look sounds pretty damn good..
Looks like a sweet ride daddyo! Hey, did ya get any build pics on this? Maby some before - during - after close ups? And details how they glued to all onto the S-10 frame! I got one of these frames and wondering what to do with it. Scrap it or build it? -Ruffdawg
You may be on the leading edge of a new trend. I suspect you'll be seeing a lot of this kind of hot rod being built as gas prices keep going up. I remember the 70's when restorods were in vogue. Almost everyone was bragging how many miles they could squeeze out of a gallon of dinosaur juice. Frank
I bet nobody will give a shit, unless you tell them. I think you have the best of both worlds. Bet it rides real nice, huh?
It's got plenty of power for what it is. I wouldn't try to tow a large camper or anything much, but I've ran down the interstate at 70mph with no problem. I really can't tell any difference in this and the stock '92 S 10 four cylinder I had powerwise. I personally would've perfered a 4.3 / fivespeed, but the P.O. built it with what he had. I intend to drive it as is mechanically, with only some paint and possible wheel changes in its near future. I'll get some pics of under the hood, but this truck was built as a driver, so it's not spotless and chrome.
sweet. this is exactly what im doing with my 54. its good to see some one else has already done this so i know i wont be dead out of power. i have the 2.5 though.
this is awsome, another guy with a s10 chassis, bet right now your glad to have that with the cost of fuel --- he he he and gm ran a 2.2 chrysler had a 2.2 and 2.5 ford has the 2.3
correction: Gm had 3 4cyl. a 2.2, a 2.5 and a 1.4 ( i believe) my tag under the hood says 2.5. i dont know why the truck would be marked wrong and the repair book be marked wrong too. i guess a lot of people have fucked up now. oh, and mine is FE.
Yeah the S10 swaps where they didnt use the V8 was always kinda lame but with $4 a gallon Franks right, this is going to be a much more popular swap. Hell, its easier too! The motor and trans are already in there! Question is, can you get a decent tone out of it? Or is it just always going to sound like a 4 or 6?
who cares about the sound. Id rather have a super quiet driver if possible.. my 49 will be super quiet if possible, but it will have a 5.3 Gen III
Thats awesome! I'm building a 53 gmc with the 87 s10 frame and keeping the 2.5L 4 speed. Just something I've always wanted to try.
