Does anyone have a good guide to rebuilding the steering box on a 1946 Ford Tudor Sedan? I cant find one on youtube that deals with everything, I have mine completely stripped and a new kit from Dennis Carpenter.

The problems I'm having are the two br*** bushings in the new kit are significantly bigger (diameter) and the washers that fit either side of the worm gear seem too thick. I cant the new worm gear in using the old washers but it won't spin freely.

Oh, and any tips for peening the stud that holds the worm gear in place?

Could I ask where you bought your parts? Is it possible that you received bushings for a pickup instead of a p***enger car? I looked in the Van Pelt catalog and there are similar but different part numbers for the two. I'm sending you a PM.

Maybe file a couple hairs off the parting line of the bushings to reduce their diameter. Then glue them into the housing with the proper Loc***e for bushings.

On the sector I did, I filed the side bushings a little, but not enough. Make sure you can ***emble and the roller turns easily. Very important! I later found a very nice condition original that I replaced it with.

I didn't peen the roller pin, I put a MIG tack weld on it.
