That car looks very familiar. It seems like it may be on the cover of an old Hot Rod Magazine that I have framed and hanging up at home. Will check after work and get back to you. Malcolm
...forgot I had a photo of that HRM on my Facebook account: This car does look similar. Like I said, will take a closer look when I get home.
Got it! It's in Hot Rod Memories on page 72. The car belonged to Junior Tucker of the Hornets club, and the occasion was the Riverside police depts attempt to launch a car club called the Spinners to keep all the car hooligans at bay. It says that the club didn't make it even though they were offered discounts at parts stores and such. That car in that picture has always been one of my favorites with is bobbed frame horns and the addition to the Hallock windsheild...
Very interesting, the cover car looks like a later version with a chopped grill shell. This car may be must be one of the first 4 cars with Hallock windshields. As the time frame is correct. The game is afoot........
On page 4 of the January 1951 Hot Rod Magazine (photo above), here's the caption: ON THE COVER -- Television station KTLA's cameras focus on Kenny Smith's attractive roadster for broadcast of "City At Night" program at the MOTORAMA in Los Angeles. Photo by Medley. There are a couple other photos of the car on pages 9 and 10.... Ya know, I'm not 100% sure it IS the same car. Even though there are some striking similarities, I can't see a '32 frame in the 1951 HRM photos. This Kenny Smith roadster appears to be channeled. In the page 10 photo, you can clearly see the steering box and arm sticking out the side of the hood, which is not present in your first photo. The HRM car also has a louvered hood top and sides, and no carb stacks sticking out.
I'm pretty sure they are not the same car. Look at the difference in hood lengths. The cover car has it's radiator dropped in front of the front crossmember and the hood lengthned a bit to compensate. The wish bones on Junior's car hang down a bit lower at their mounting as well. The cover car has a small flat metal U shaped nerf on the front too.
Jimmy you really know your stuff. I used to remember things before I got old and now have CRS...(can't remember ****) Haha...
So we have established they are not the same. Who is Junior Tucker and which Hallock windshield does he have on his car. What happened to the car??
