Sooo i have a 1947 chevy fleetline. Im running a 235 inline six with stock tran. Im gonna have a "jiminez bros customs" two link setup installed to the rear. Ok here is the problem. . . In running the two link i cant run the stock torque tube. Not so bad right! But now i need a tran that will work with the 235 and also allow me to keep the 3 on the tree. . . . Need some help!!!!!!!!!!
Bellhousing: you'll want to get a '48-59 truck bellhousing. This will have the wider trans bolt pattern and provision for the foot starter. If you don't care about the foot starter, then a '55-62 235 car bellhousing will also work. '60-62 trucks have the fork on the p***. side, so those won't work. All of these bellhousings have the 4 11/16" center hole. 3spd Trans: Any '55-up 3spd will have the wider bolt pattern, but some from the early '60's will have a smaller bearing retainer, so watch out for that. I believe it can be swapped out, but check with a trans shop to verify. All 3spds have a 10 spline input shaft. Around '64 they changed the tailshaft spline count, so be aware of that becasue it will matter when you do the driveshaft. Shifter mechanism: You will want to swap out the shifting mechanism on the column to a newer style, like a '49-up car or '48-up truck.
Yes. Also if you can find a '67 or newer trans you get synchromesh in all 3 gears. A big plus with a 235 and more hiway friendly gears.
