Gutters are part of the factory seam where the gutter is sandwiched between the roof and lower body sections. Just fixing the rot will be bad enough, let alone changing positions.
Beater, does the bottom of the two earlier and plan K both have a sharp transition or are they smooth transitions as the Top laid down look has?
Looks great from my vantage point...You are well versed in this rodeo and have a good eye for what works due to your exposure to Hotrod/Custom over the years...it certainly shows...
Starting to figure out how to repair the gutters and make them longer. Cut some pieces from a 4 door roof. Ugly but closer.
I can't help think these complicated rail mods influence the removal of the rails which despite negatives can also work in Custom...but the value of including them is also well warranted...I guess you are cutting them in above...there also a tab that fits in between the upper roof and lower roof seam...are you doing that to somehow?
Yes. Air saw and lots of blades to cut 4 million spot welds. The area I need to rebuild due to sliding the rear of the quarter window forward will get made with the flanges and the a few plug welds to fix it all back together.
I suspect theres actually a lot of strength added to the entire length of the drip rails due too 3 angled details being sandwiched together...
This is the cross-section of the roof that I robbed the gutters from, unfortunately it also provided a place for moisture to get trapped because the bottom of the gutters weren’t View attachment 5231081 really sealed very well after all these years so there is a certain amount of rot involved with such a sandwich set up as well.
Just noticed your parts car post. Those front splash aprons behind the front bumper are hens teeth. There are two different versions and neither are easy to find. Someone made a three piece front/back decades ago but nothings been available for a long time. just in case you need one or were looking for something to make a little money on
I'm thinking a tudor...that's a great shot...the sedan back is no doubt worth incorporating... It could be an altered wheelbase Hotrod...like the Bantam Flavor Make it a Coupe...move the well back into the quarter
I see fro m the pics of your open house that you’re saving up peanut shells to use for media blasting... LOL. I recommend walnut shells.
Kind of thinking DOHC 6 Jag power. A bit off topic for here. We shall see when we pull it down if I can come up with an engine. I know where 2 are sitting but haven’t pulled the trigger as my bank account is still bled dry from moving and building.
Dropped axle showed up today, posies from spring, Chassis Engineering dropped steering arms, and a wishbone from my salvage area. I have 53-56 F100 brakes with 46-8 square spindles, adapters, new king pins, and all rebuilt backing plates with new drums coming so hoping for a quick swap up front. The rear lowering spring is on back order, thinking about flattening the rear crossmember some as well as longer shackles to drop the rear. Work continues trying to get the gutter profile correct. Hopefully have this side wrapped up and on to the other side. It isn’t quite as rotten plus the door actually fit before we started this whole process so I’m hoping it goes way quicker. Less figuring things out as well. Hoping to be starting the actual bodywork on this thing before 1 December. Long ways to go to get to that point though.
I was sold on blue until I laid this green pattern paper on tonight. Looks pretty close to 1947 Lincoln Opal Blue Green.
Blue or green? Green or blue? Either goes with WWW and a white interior. I hear paint is getting to be a longer lead time everyday so I should probably make the decision soon.
There is a wait on black and some of the hardness right now, and other primary colors are also affected. I like the green
I like your profile way better than most of the chops on these cars; like this: Keep on keepin' on...
