I'm not positive this will count as a RECENT build because I'm not sure what work was done when. Maybe somebody can clarify... As I understand it (and as was written in Hop Up), this car was originally owned by **** Kraft. Sid Cruce bought it and around 2002 did a body-off ch***is restoration, then lowered the stance, added the Studebaker taillights, punched the louvers in the hood, painted the car the shade seen here, and added the t n' r interior. So it's an old car with some history, but it got the early custom treatment about 10 years ago. And happy new year!
I don't think anyone has posted pics of this car yet, but the car referred to in Rik's photo archive as the 1949 Boris Mercury is just fantastic. It's my favorite new old Merc custom because of the '49 Caddy side trim (or whatever it is) and the fadeaway body line... Just beautiful...
Its actually on page one.... But these are nice photos... Great looking car that has all the looks to just roll out of one of the shops in 1951-52. 1948 Buick Side trim.
Not recent one... but BadBob took this photo when the car was still in black primer John Mearns photo
If i remember right Jeff, we have proof ( in another thread) that this car is the first chopped Merc , so i have no doubt that any judge would give a trophy to that new, sweet looking , never seen before baby ....even in primer, or even in primer spoted stage or even if it was in bare metal or unfinished weld stage !lol! !!! I mean, mid century mercs are the **** ... from that very one to decades !!!
I went through this thread again and it influenced me to go back and look at the Kustom Illustrated article on Jeff's Merc. Man what a kick *** car!!
Wow! I would've never guessed............ So then this '36 I saw in Paso this was one of the versions of that car?.... Bryan
Nope modern drivetrain and bags. Laying frame has nothing to do with the stance of cars built in the style J.B. is aiming for. I really like the car personally, although a better stance would make it even better, but not what this thread is about.
Wow, lots of nice cars. I'm still reeling from the "those who get it" coment but ile survive. That caddy is gorgeous too bad about the aweful stance..... airbags ruin everything. Even a guy that "doesn't understand" like me, knows that.
Different car. The guy that did what he did to Tony Miller's car needs to be flogged to a slow and painful death. And pay for the car to be restored to it's former glory.
No. The car with the WWs and skirts (actually a '35) has been around for several years, and is not my old car. The guy who re-did my car appears to have copied that one about 80%, but took a different direction with stance, wheels & tires. Yes, positive.
Well, yes, it is a later model car and custom for this thread, but there are other custom threads for your later style.
I think you should try to find another thread to post your non-relevant car. Thanks. Why can't any thread on HAMB be kept in the intentions of the idea. If you have bags or modern drivetrain or other things you can't see, it still can look like a great car with period modifications. And it will fit here. But don't put up pics of cars that is built in another style. Even if it is period correct 1955. Not here. If it has a period correct driveline, it is even more interesting. Especially since I personally think it is an essential part of a car. The engine. But I have no problem with perfect looking cars (like Weez -50 Ford) and a modern engine. It can't be seen in the pics. Just don't put any effort in showing the 350 w. flamed aluminum valve covers in the pics. Ha ha... I didn't think you got so upset over that comment. I was actually going to answer you on your first mentioning on that. THAT (those who get it...) comment was not an answer to YOU. Please read my post #292 again and see what I wrote. You read it like the entire post was an answer to you. It was not. Sorry, that I haven't pointed this out earlier. I answer you in the two first sections. Then I have a headline saying: "More". That part is about other things that had popped up in the thread. Things like it is too expensive to do the car in the right way etc. So, don't worry. I didn't mean to offend any of your knowledge. It was an overall saying that I think fits very fine in most cases concerning this hobby... Do not want to publish my own car too much here. But since we talked about stance earlier I remember this old pic I did back in -04, when it was just chopped and still in primer, to see how close to the Matranga chop we came. The C-pillar is pretty heavy on the Matranga and that is what I like. To have a real coupe-feeling and not too slanted/fastback-feeling. The lighting makes my car look a bit slimmer than it actually is in the back of the top. Will cut mine up to do the final stuff next winter. It is not a clone, but it is strongly inspired. This winter it's getting a fresh overhauled and lightly tuned engine and a nice pair of 552's.
i think mine is perfect for this tread 1950 4dr merc nonchopped, shaved hoods, lowered in the back, mildkustom like the james dean merc. original drivetrain, 6v and 7.10 good year, somtimes with skirts and caps. I wanted to drive a car like a young boy would have in 1955. And i have to fight with me everyday not to lower the front and chop it. But everywere i come there are guys that notice that!!! so i keep it as it is...
That's an easy one.....the place has outgrown itself! There should be a test you had to fill out before you were able to sign up. Some hard questions about our past, style, do's and dont's!
